Schenecker, Charles “Chuck”

Charles (Chuck) Schenecker, 74, St. Joseph, Missouri lost his battle with cancer on October 29, 2010. He passed away peacefully at his home.
Chuck was born on March 28, 1936 in St. Joseph to Joseph and Genevieve “Sweetie” Schenecker. They preceded him in death. He graduated from Lafayette high school and went in the Missouri Air Guard.
Chuck then married Mary Beth Culver, his wife of 55 years. Chuck was a plumber and worked for Barmann and IHP before starting
his own company, Schenecker Plumbing and Heating, with his sons. He retired in 1989 and worked in the bail bond business.
Chuck, or “PawPaw” as his grandchildren called him, enjoyed hunting, camping, playing blackjack at the casino, and summers spent boating with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Beth, four children, Steve and Rene Schenecker, Rick and Mary Beth Schenecker, Leslie Schenecker and Lee Sommers, and Mark Schenecker; grandchildren, Caley Mazurkewycz, Kelsey Schenecker, Heather (Schenecker) Crist, Katie Schenecker, Chuck Schenecker, Elizabeth Schenecker, Ashley Cruz, Courtney Cruz, Danielle (Chavez) Pummell, Jeremy Chavez; great-grandchildren, Evan Cruz, Izabelle Hernandez and Jensen Nash.
The family will have a private memorial service. Mr. Schenecker has been cremated under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. There will be no visitation or services at our Chapel, however there is a register book available to sign.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Hands of Hope Hospice or a charity of choice.

Agency, MO- Harold “Gene” Swanson, 86, passed away Thursday, October 28, 2010, at Carriage Square Health Care Center in St. Joseph.
Gene was born on January 6, 1924, in Galesburg, Illinois. He was raised in Galesburg, then joined the Army and served during World War II. Following his discharge, he worked as a machinist for Burlington Northern Railroad for thirty years.
Gene married Mary L. Rickel on May 15, 1964, in Aledo, IL. She died on May 2, 2005. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Ann (Robinson) Swanson, sister, Beverly; and son, Robert Justus, Jr.
Gene is survived by three daughters, Lois (Dennis) John, Agency, MO, Carol (Robert) Dodge, Aledo, IL and Heather (Joshua) Hays, Agency, MO; grandchildren, Jamie & Jeffery Ferguson, Shayna Davis, William and Brian Vorva, Justin Dodge, Brooke, Deven and Justine Hays, B.J., Catey and Adam Justus; ten great-grandchildren; brother, William (Rose) Swanson, Galesburg, IL and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services 3:00 p.m. Monday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, in St. Joseph. Graveside Service at East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg, Illinois, at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Visitation will begin after 12:00 noon Sunday at the Chapel, where the family will receive friends1:00-3:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

Ines Ansuncion (Verdugo) Oropesa, 65, St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at a local health care center.
Ines was born May 15, 1945 in Havana, Cuba to Antonio and Beneta Verdugo.
Survivors include sons, Alexander and Oscar Friger, both of Nevada.
Mrs. Oropesa has been cremated under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Memorial services will be held in Las Vegas at a later date.

Sedalia, MO – David A. Eggleston, Sr., 50, passed away Sunday, October 24, 2010, at a Columbia, Missouri hospital.
David was born on June 5, 1960, in Tucson, Arizona, to John R. and Susan J. (Scanlan) Eggleston. He was a 1978 graduate of Bishop LeBlond High School and attended MWSU. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. David owned Advantage Automotive Inc. in St. Joseph, MO and was a member of the Used Car Dealer Association and National Automobile Dealers Association.
David was preceded in death by his parents and brother, James “Jimmy” Eggleston.
Survivors include his children: David Eggleston, II, St. Joseph, MO, Holly Anderson, Wallace, MO and James Eggleston, Kansas City, MO; two brothers, Robert Eggleston (Joyce Johnson), St. Joseph, MO, and Paul (Kellie) Eggleston, Canton, Georgia; two sisters, Leslie (Steven) Rich, John’s Creek,Georgia, and Mary Michael “Mikey” Carroll, Smithville, MO; three grandchildren, Trey and Alyssa Eggleston and Taylor Anderson; cousins; nieces and nephews; and his long time friend, Rebecca “Becky” Otten.

Donald E. Loehr, 71, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, October 23, 2010, at his home, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Donald was born on June 25, 1939, in Kansas City, MO, to William and Dorothy (Bryan) Loehr. He was a graduate of Leavenworth (KS) High School and served in the US Navy from 1957 to 1962.
Donald worked as an electrician through I.B.E.W. for forty years, retiring on June 25, 2001. He also had been an instructor for Hillyard Technical Center.
Donald was a member of Zeredatha Masonic Lodge #189, A.F. & A.M.; Charity Lodge #331, A.F, & A.M.; a 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason; member of York Rite Bodies and a member of Moila Shrine Temple.
Donald married Marlene Hoecker on December 15, 1962, in St. Joseph. She survives of the home. Other survivors include two daughters, Debbie Breckenridge and husband Kirk, St. Joseph, MO, and Cindy Hopkins and husband Ed, Savannah, MO; grandchildren, Abra Wooland and husband Paul, Bryan Kern, Justin Hopkins and Courtney Hopkins, all of St. Joseph; great-grandchild, Remi Woolard, St. Joseph,MO; sister, Ginger Johnson and husband Jim of Kansas; and several nieces and nephews.
Services: 11:00 A.M. Thursday, October 28, 2010, at The Edge Christian Fellowship, 2501 S. Belt Highway, St. Joseph, MO. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery.

Jean Adibel Melkowski, 74 years young, St. Joseph, Missouri went home to God and her wonderful parents, Loren and Fern Johnson, to share heavenly wonders.
She was born in Stella, Nebraska and attended Stella school for 12 years. After graduation, she moved to Omaha, married and had three daughters, Jan, Joy and Judi. She was later divorced.
Jean moved to St. Joseph in 1978 and married her husband, Leon. She worked at the St. Joseph News-Press for a number of years, then became License Supervisor for the City of St. Joseph. She ended her working career as a Customer Service Supervisor at ADCO.
Jean enjoyed her grandchildren very much, as well as traveling, entertaining and doing things that pleased. She will be remembered for her loving personality and being the best “Grammy to all”.
She is survived by her husband, Leon, of the home; her three daughters, Jan (Mick) McKinley, Council Bluffs, Iowa, Joy (Jim) Eggleston, Omaha, Nebraska, Judi (Jeff) Adams, St. Joseph; step-son, Dr. Steve (Trudi) Hoerath, St. Joseph; her brother, Jim (Ella) Johnson, Stella, Nebraska; her sister, Joy Davis, Omaha; numerous nieces and nephews; 10 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.

Elizabeth J. Ashlock, 89, Stanberry, Missouri, formerly of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, October 18, 2010 at a Stanberry health care center.
Elizabeth was born January 5, 1921 in Kay County, Oklahoma to Edward and Della (Buster) Gordon. She was a nurse’s aide at St. Joseph State Hospital. Elizabeth married Sherman J. Ashlock on August 8, 1947 in Cheyenne, Wyoming, he preceded her in death.
She was also preceded by her parents; one brother; four sisters; and one grandchild.
Survivors include sons, Darrel (Marsha) Ashlock, Jefferson City, Missouri, Eddie (Beth) Sharp, St. Joseph; daughter, Bonnie Sterner (Greg) Canchola, Englewood, Florida; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Ashlock will be cremated under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Memorial services will be held at a later date. There will be no visitation at our Chapel, however a register book will be available to sign.

Rosalea (Brewer) Barker, 82, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, October 18, 2010, at her home.
Rosalea was born in St. Joseph on June 16, 1928, to Otto and Marguerite (Robbins) Brewer. She attended Lindbergh and Lafayette High School. She worked for Whitaker Cable before moving to Loveland, Colorado in the early 1960s. While in Colorado, she worked for the Loveland Crystal Company for several years. She returned to St. Joseph in 1995.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Norma Webster.
She married Kenneth E. Barker in 1980. He survives of the home. She is also survived by her children, Terry (Mary) McCoppin and Daniel (Perriann) McCoppin, all of St. Joseph, Chuck (Emily) McCoppin, Fort Collins, CO, Julie (Cary) Farnham, Drake, CO, Dave McCoppin, Fort Collins, CO, and Connie Sloan, Greeley, CO; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; twin sister, Frances Gregory, and brothers, Jerry Brewer and Don Brewer, all of St. Joseph, MO.

Charles Doran Anderson was born December 31, 1938 in Duluth, Minnesota. He graduated in June 1957 from Duluth East High School and spent the summer following graduation in Ketchikan, Alaska, working for the U. S. Fish & Wildlife Service.
Charles attended college in Duluth and at Valley City, (ND) State College, graduating from that school in 1962 with a B. S. Degree in secondary education. Seven years later, Charles earned his M. A. Degree in counseling psychology from the University of North Dakota-Grand Forks.
Charles had been an educator for most of his life. He was a high school teacher and counselor in North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois and Iowa before moving to Missouri in 1994. Mr. Anderson worked in school districts in Maries and Lafayette counties in Missouri, and as a substitute teacher in the St. Joseph School District. Additionally, Mr. Anderson worked as a security officer at KCI airport during the 9/11 terrorist attacks. He worked also as a juvenile correctional officer in Atchison, Kansas, and as a psychiatric aide at the Northwest Missouri Psychiatric Rehabilitation Center in St. Joseph.
Charles was very active with his church as a acolyte advisor, choir member, lay reader, usher and youth group sponsor. He belonged to community choral groups throughout the Midwest, and was an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Bay View, Milwaukee, where he was their bulletin editor and publisher.
Mr. Anderson’s hobbies included bowling, cooking, dancing, hiking, photography, reading, swimming, travel and writing. He was especially supportive of conservation, the environment, and nature. He held memberships in Defenders of Wildlife, National Parks & Conservation Association, Nature Conservancy, the Wilderness Society, and World Wildlife Fund.
Travels took Mr. Anderson to 44 of our states, Canada, Mexico, South America, Asia, the Polynesian Islands, seven European countries and Egypt. He has been quoted as saying, “It is truly a wonderful experience to visit other cultures and to witness first-hand, how their daily lives compare with those with whom we so often take for granted.”
Memorial services for Charles will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Christ Episcopal Church, 207 North 7th Street, St. Joseph. Visitation will be held at Christ Episcopal Church from 4 to 6 pm, Friday. Inurnment will follow the services in the Christ Church Columbarium.

Jack Stickley, 72, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, October 13, 2010, at his home.
Jack was born in Salina, Kansas, on August 2, 1938, to Arnold and Mary Jane (Spencer) Stickley. He served in the Air National Guard
He was preceded in death by his parents and step-mother, Genevive Stickley.
Jack married Eva Joyce Swinehart on May 29, 1959. She survives of the home. He is also survived by sons, Les Stickley and companion Lisa Salmons, Bill Stickley; granddaughter, Dana and fiancé, Joey Siela, all of St. Joseph, MO; grandson, Cody, Strafford, MO; great-grandson, Mason Siela; brother, Doug (Ruth), Maryville, MO; brother-in-law, Dale Swinehart, Fairfax, MO; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Stickley has been cremated under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. There will be no services. Friends may call at the home, 3216 Neighbor Road.

Roger T. Zirkle, 69, Clarksdale, Missouri, passed away Friday, October 15, 2010 at his home.
Roger was born June 14, 1941 in Hammond, Indiana to Joseph and Margrete (Klawuhn) Zirkle. He was a graduate of Central High School and was employed as a meat cutter for 30 years, retiring from Food-4-Less in May 2004. Roger was a member of U.F.C.W. District Union Local Two and Frederick Boulevard Baptist Church.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Mike and Ted Zirkle and son-in-law, Jay Shifflett.
Roger married Susan McGuire on March 20, 1990 in St. Joseph, Missouri, she survives of the home.
Additional survivors include daughters, Michelle Bretz, Stephanie Shifflett, Jammie Vaughn; sons, Tony Zirkle, Willie Riggs, Samuel Riggs; brothers, Ronald and Roland Zirkle; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Marcelle Louise Brott, 87, Gower, Missouri, passed away Saturday, October 16, 2010 at Gower Convalescent Center, where she had so many loving angels, whom she so dearly loved.
Marcelle was born May 16, 1923 to Isaac and Lorene (Brown) Brott in St. Joseph, Missouri, where she was a life long resident. She worked for Quaker Oats for 40 years and was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.
Marcelle was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Charles and Carrol Brott; nephews, Martin Brott, Charles Brott, Jr.; and great nephew, Michael Gilley.
Survivors include brothers, Dallas Brott, St. Joseph, Ralph Brott, Phoenix, Arizona; sisters, Maxine Gilley, Lorene Brott, Wanda Weddington, all of St. Joseph; numerous nieces; nephews; many great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Larry L. Fitzpatrick, 69, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away October 13, 2010, at Heartland Regional Medical Center.
Larry was born on February 28, 1941, in Oregon, Missouri, to Charles and Sylvia (Puett) Fitzpatrick. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Shirley Puett and granddaughter, Margaret Irene Richardson.
Larry was the I.T. Manager at Mead-WestVaco, retiring in 2003 after forty-two years of service. He was a member of the Mead 25 & 40-Year Club, Lincoln Lodge #138 in Fillmore, and Francis Street First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed participating on several bowling and softball leagues, hunting, fishing and family genealogy. He was the caller for Savannah Sashayers and a member of Pony Express Kickers Square Dance Club.
Larry married Nancy D McNeel on August 8, 1964. She survives of the home. Other survivors include; grandson, Timothy Richardson and granddaughter, Katelyn Richardson, whom Larry and Nancy raised in their home; and their daughter, Karla Curnutt, Kansas City, MO.
Services 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Pastor John Roeder officiating. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery.

Las Vegas, NV – Vincent Allen Pfeffer, 92, passed away Sunday, October 3, 2010, in Las Vegas, NV after a brief illness
Born on December 17, 1917, in Bethany, MO, Vince grew up and spent most of his life in St. Joseph, Mo and in the Kansas City area. He lived the last ten years of his life in Arizona and Las Vegas, NV to be near his son Ron.
Vincent was employed in the garment industry in St. Joseph and was plant manager of Gay Gibson in Kansas City in later years.
His wife of 57 years, Pauline, two brother and three sisters preceded him in death.
His son Ronald and grandchildren and great grandchildren survive him.
Vincent lived his last years in retirement communities in Prescott, AZ and Las Vegas. He had many friends and spent his time painting, crocheting, making model airplanes; as well as playing pool and cards.
Vince will be missed by his family and friends.

Elwood, KS – Betty J. Lewis, 84, passed away Sunday, October 10, 2010, at Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph.
Betty was born in Marshalltown, Iowa, on October 8, 1926, to Charles J. and Mable F. (Clifton) Lewis. Betty worked in housekeeping at Hotel Robidoux.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Molly Lou Gilmore and Helen JoAnn Miller; two brothers, Darvan and Vernon Lewis and one sister, Mary Argo
Survivors include her sister, Helen Monical, Elwood, KS; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Emily V. (Angold) Dotson, 83, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, October 11, 2010, at her home.
Emily was born in St. Joseph, on January 26, 1927, to George and Edna (Craig) Angold. She was a member of Wyatt Park Christian Church.
Emily was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ernest Gilbert Dotson; son-in-law, George W. Watts; grandson, Kenneth Justice; two brothers and one sister.
Survivors include her children, Winnie Watts, St. Joseph, MO, Edward Dotson, Elwood, KS and Mary Rogers, St. Joseph, MO; seven grandchildren: Taira, Colby, Joshua, Tyler, Gage, Zackery and Teagan; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Patsy Heitman, brothers, James and Thomas Angold; sister-in-law, Ima J.Angold; and numerous nieces and nephews.

McElduff, J. Stephen

J. Stephen McElduff, 60, St. Joseph, Missouri, died Saturday night, October 9, 2010, at his home following a lengthy battle with Myasthenia Gravis and ALS.
Stephen was born in St. Joseph on October 13, 1949, to James and Winona (Powell) McElduff. He graduated from Central High School and attended St. Joseph Junior College. He was also a graduate of Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science. He was an embalmer and funeral director for Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel for thirty years. The last nine years he was employed at South Belt Wal-Mart. He was a member of the Abundant Life Community of Christ Church and past member of the Masonic orders.
He was preceded in death by his father; maternal grandparents, Charlie and Leona Powell; uncle, Ron Powell, aunt and uncle, Elmer and Margie (Powell) Lynch.
Stephen married Peggy Anderson on July 24, 1982. She survives of the home.
He is also survived by his mother, Winona McElduff; brother, Mark and wife Vicky; nieces Alanna and Erin; aunt, Sharon Powell and many cousins.
Stephen has been cremated under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Celebration of Life 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 13th at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, where the family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday. Carroll Cathey officiating.

Camilla Dooley Lawrence, 91, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, October 7, 2010 at her home.
Camilla was born January 13, 1919 in Stoutsville, Missouri to Everett and Blanche (Williams) Dooley. She graduated as valedictorian from Monroe City, Missouri high school in 1935. After graduating, she was employed as secretary to the Superintendent of Schools.
In 1943, she moved to California to work for the United States Army and met her future husband Wendell D. Lawrence. They were married on January 17, 1944 in Twin Falls, Idaho and he preceded her in death in 2005.
She was also preceded by her parents; twin sister, Melinda Pevestorff; sister, Myra Francis Dooley; brothers, James Dooley and John Dooley.
Survivors include daughter, Blanche (Bill) Clinefelter, August, Georgia; son, Dooley (Mary) Lawrence, Avenue City, Missouri; brothers, Bill Dooley, Quincy, Illinois, Henry Dooley, Palmyra, Missouri; grandchildren, Erica Clinefelter and Chad Clinefelter, Dansare (Austin) Marks and Thomas Lawrence.
Camilla enjoyed playing cards and was a great pitch player.
The family will receive friends this evening from 7 to 9 pm at her residence for an informal gathering. Mrs. Lawrence has been cremated under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel.

Wanda was born March 25, 1935 in St. Joseph to Walter and Dorothy (Leeson) Coy. She was married to Raleigh McDonald on December 9, 1951 at her home in St. Joseph. He survives of the home.
Wanda was preceded in death by her father, one daughter, Debbie Herbert, and one son, David McDonald.
Additional survivors include sons, Edward McDonald, Austin, Texas, Robert McDonald, Moberly, Missouri; daughter, Brenda McDonald; mother, Dorothy Coy; sister, Willa Duncan; brothers, Walter and Wilber Coy; all of St. Joseph.
Mrs. McDonald has been cremated under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. There will be no visitation or services at our Chapel, however there will be a register book available to sign.

Lorene Miller Van Meter, 89, St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Monday, October 4, 2010 at a local hospital.
Lorene was born July 10, 1921 in Fairport, Missouri to Harold G. and Minnie Irene (Weiland) Miller. She spent the years of her young life in the Helena, Missouri area and the rest of her life in St. Joseph.
In 1943, she married Warren Van Meter, who survives of the home, and to this union five children were born. Lorene was a homemaker and in her later years, worked for A. J. August as a seamstress. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she taught their youth for a number of years, and a former member and president of W.M.U.
Lorene was preceded in death by her parents; and one daughter, Barbara Ray in May 1978.
Additional survivors include son, Art (Sharon) Van Meter, St. Joseph; daughters, Diann (Les) Wyrick, St. Joseph, Nancy (Russ) McCamy, Yuma, Arizona, Pamela (Jeff) Young, Aurora, Colorado; granddaughter, Lori Cox, who lived in the home for several years; ten additional grandchildren, Scot and Ryan Van Meter, Steven Ray, Toni Svuba, Bill and Jeffrey Wyrick, Marty and Aubrey McCamy, Kelsey and Colin Young; eight great-grandchildren, G. C., Austin and Tyler Cox, Tyce, Zachary and Chloe Van Meter, Jack and Sam Ray; one great-great grandson, Gage Cox; one sister, Irene Ellis; numerous nieces and nephews.
Services 3 pm, Wednesday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Pastor Alan Lane officiating. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will begin after 1 pm Tuesday at our Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday evening.

Walter E. Wilson, Missouri Highway Patrol (Retired), 100, St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Sunday, October 3, 2010 at a local health care facility.
Walter was born October 4, 1909 in Sedalia, Missouri to George and Hildred (Elliott) Wilson. He was a Missouri State Trooper for
27 years, retiring in 1969 as a lieutenant. He belonged to Wyatt Park Christian Church and was a member of the Retired Missouri Highway Patrol. He had the distinction of being the oldest living retiree.
Walter was married to Orpha Yates on August 8, 1937 in Helena, Missouri. They were married for 60 years before her passing on December 4, 1997. He was also preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, James.
Survivors include daughter, Robin Wolff, New York City, New York; son, Roger Y. (Gayle) Wilson, Carrollton, Missouri; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 11 am, Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at Wyatt Park Christian Church. Dr. Scott Killgore officiating. Inurnment Union Chapel Cemetery, Clarksdale, Missouri. Mr. Wilson has been cremated under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel.

Pearl M. Brumback, 70, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, October 4, 2010, at Heartland Regional Medical Center.
Pearl was born in St. Joseph on July 25, 1940, to Wilbur O. and Pearl Minnie (Kretzschmer) Meade. She enjoyed cooking, camping and raising flowers. Her family meant everything to her, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she loved very much.
Pearl was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Irene Van Hulle.
Survivors include her husband, LeRoy Brumback, of the home; daughter, Brenda (Tim) Hornbuckle, St. Joseph, MO; two granddaughters, Mandi (Travis) Wilson and Tawnya (Josh) Bundy; three great-grandchildren, Rylee Wilson, Breanna Bundy and Trinity Bundy; two sisters, Margaret (Bill) Neiderhouse and Barbara (Edward) Bryson; six brothers, Leonard Meade, Gary Meade, Ranson Marshall, Jr., Elmer (Madolyn) Marshall, Hubert (Ilene) Marshall, Kenneth (Maryln) Marshall and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services 1:00 p.m. Friday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Interment Ashland Cemetery.
Visitation will begin after 1:00 p.m. Thursday at the Chapel, where the family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday evening. The family has requested memorials to American Heart Association.

Cliffton E. Benitz, 64, St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Sunday, October 3, 2010 at his brother’s home.
Cliff was born September 3, 1946 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Donald Ray and Bernita Mae (Holcomb) Benitz, who survive him.
He was a residential advisor for Missouri School for the Deaf for 17 years, retiring in 2008. Cliff attended St. Peter Lutheran Church.
Survivors include daughter, Kim Benitz, Overland Park, Kansas; son, Kevin Benitz, Lees Summit, Missouri; brother, Evean Benitz,
Wathena, Kansas; sister, Pam McClanahan, Hemple, Missouri; and nieces and nephews.

Corliss G. Myers, 76, of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away on Sunday, October 3, 2010 at a Savannah, Missouri health care center.
Corliss was born on January 4, 1934 to Selby and Grace (Adkins) Myers. He served in United States Navy during the Korean War. Corliss was a supervisor with Boehringer-Ingelheim-Vetmedica for 27 years and was of the Nazarene Faith.
He married Shirley A. Cotter on January 3, 1953in Yuma, Arizona. She preceded him in death on January 27, 2007. He was also preceded by his parents and one son, Gregory W. Myers.
Corliss is survived by his children, Balinda L. Davis and husband, Michael, Graham, Washington, Sherry L. Rogman and husband, John, Nebraska City, Nebraska, Glenn E. Myers and wife, Yvonna, Rosendale, Missouri, Randall S. Myers and wife, Betty, Bolckow, Missouri, Penny J. Cerniglia and husband John, St. Joseph, Missouri; fourteen brothers and sisters; eleven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Bernice M. Vandever-Burris, 68 of Sarasota, Florida formerly of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away on Friday, October 1, 2010 in Bradenton, Florida.
Bernice was born on November 14, 1941 in Cosby, Missouri to Estil W. and Bessie (Knorr) Carrel. She graduated from Central High School in 1959 and attended Missouri Western State University.
She was an administrator of Bliss Manor Assisted Living and later she was self-employed. She was of the Christian Faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, David H. Vandever; one brother, Rolla R. Carrel; step-daughter, Elaine Brizendine; and four grandchildren.
She later married Thomas Burris, he survives of the home. Additional survivors include two sons, David L. Vandever, Idaho Springs, Colorado, Daniel L. Vandever, Fairmont, Minnesota, daughter, Debra (Jeff) Quillin, Jeffersonville, Indiana; step-children, Ron Burris, Debbie Mauzey, Pete Burris, Rob Burris, Paul Burris, Lisa Burris; one brother, Kenneth Carrel; 23 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Mary D. Wohlford, 100, St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Saturday, October 2, 2010 at a local health care center.
Mary was born January 28, 1910 in Barnard, Missouri to George and Ollie (Long) Warren. She was a sales clerk with J. C. Penney for
27 years retiring in 1972. Mary was of the Christian Faith. She loved animals, especially her dog, Peppi.
She married Glen Wohlford on September 27, 1946. They were married for 37 years until his passing on November 28, 1983. Mary was also preceded in death by her parents; four sisters; and one brother.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and Interment 2 pm, Thursday at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 12 noon, Wednesday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Wednesday evening.

Ethel B. Stapleton-Trapp, 94, Amazonia, Missouri passed away Friday, October 2, 2010 at her home.
Ethel was born September 4, 1916 in Perry, Kansas to Charles Andrew and Grace Ann (North) Fine. After graduating from high school in Perry, she married Merle Trapp and they moved to St. Joseph, Missouri, where they began their family.
Ethel graduated from beauty school and began her career as a cosmetologist. She taught at the St. Joseph Beauty University and opened her own shop called Ethel’s Beauty Shop. Ethel was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Preceding Ethel in death were parents; first husband Merle Trapp in 1965; second husband, Herbert Metting in 1969; third husband, Herman Elmer Stapleton in 1979; eight brothers and sisters.
Survivors include daughter, Sharon Michel, Owasso, Oklahoma; Son, Mason Trapp, Sr, Victoria, Texas; step-daughter, Karen Harris, Kearney, Missouri; grandchildren, Joni Allison, Barry Robertson, Gayla Boyd, Stacie Robertson, Mark Trapp, Michael Trapp, Mason Trapp, Jr.; nine great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; sister, Jessie Clinkenbeard, Overland Park, Kansas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
