Mary “Susie” Archdekin, 87, St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at her home.
Mary was born February 13, 1923 in Nashville, Tennessee to David and Marian (Heald) Plummer. She married Frank Bob Archdekin March 10, 1943 in Franklin, Tennessee, he survives of the home.
Mary was a member of Clair United Methodist Church, VFW Auxiliary and Red Hatters. She also belonged to Needles of Moila, Oak Grove Homemakers Club and was a 4-H leader for 25 years.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents.
Additional survivors include son, Frank Archdekin, Jr.; daughter, Joyce Honey (Ronald) Canfield; son Patrick (Carla) Archdekin, all of St. Joseph; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy (Charles) Earp, Charlotte, North Carolina; numerous nieces and nephews.
Services 3 pm, Monday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Visitation will begin after 12 noon, Sunday at our Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 pm Sunday afternoon. Interment Fairview Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Clair United Methodist Church or Hands of Hope Hospice.
Knudson, Virginia J.

Virginia L. Knudson, 72, St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Monday, November 22, 2010 at a local health care center.
Virginia was born July 26, 1938 in St. Joseph to Wesley and Lucille (Engelman) Purdy.
She was a sales clerk for United Department Store and Katz Drug Store.
Virginia married Larry Knudson who preceded her in death after 45 years of marriage. She was also preceded by her parents; sister, Delores Grable; and brother, Bob Purdy.
Survivors include daughter, Cheryl Justus, St. Joseph; son, Jerry Knudson, Emporia, Kansas; brother, John Purdy, St. Joseph; and four grandchildren.
Graveside service 2 pm, Monday at Memorial Park Cemetery under the
direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel.
There will be no visitation at our Chapel, however a register book will be available to sign.
Ponsler, Charles

Charles M. Ponsler, 92, Maryville, Missouri passed away Sunday, November 14, 2010 at a Maryville health care center.
Charles was born December 31, 1917 in Holland, Illinois to Clarence and Mary Francis (Holmes) Ponsler. He served in the United States Army and worked for a glass company in Massachusetts and later at Skateland in St. Joseph for several years.
Charles married Alice T. Brady on July 1, 1968, she preceded him in Death on October 14, 2000. He was also preceded by his parents.
Mr. Ponsler has been cremated under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. There will be no visitation or services held.
Williams, Raynard “Tony”

Raynard “Tony” Lee Williams, 63, Atchison, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at his residence.
Tony was born May 14, 1947 in Brownsville, Kentucky to Silas and Clarissa (Lindsey) Williams. He served his country in the U. S. Navy.
Tony was a chef in Las Vegas Casino restaurants. He married the former Linda Stotts, of Savannah, Missouri on November 17, 1989 in Reno, Nevada, she survives of the home.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents.
Additional survivors include daughters, Christen Souza, Englewood, Colorado, Tonia Porche, Castle Rock, Colorado, Jennifer Neputi, Highlands Ranch, Colorado; three step-children; ten grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; four brothers; one sister; numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Williams has been cremated under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. There will be no visitation or services at our Chapel, however a register book will be available to sign.

Clarence “Clay” W. Pohlmann, 33, St. Joseph, Missouri passed away at St. Luke’s hospital Tuesday, November 16, 2010.
Clay was born August 30, 1977 and was a life long resident of St. Joseph, Missouri.
He was a graduate of Lafayette High School and has worked for Rick Stoneburner Construction, Pierson’s Residential Framing and Uncle D’s.
He loved hunting, fishing and his pet dogs.
Surviving are his parents, Clarence “Ron” and Sandy (Cavner) Pohlmann; brother and sister-in-law, Tim and Sarah Pohlmann; sister and brother-in-law, Rhonda and Mark Pierson; grandmother, Maggie Pohlmann; nephew; nieces; great-nephew; aunts; uncles; and cousins.
Services 1pm, Saturday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Visitation will begin after 12:00 noon Friday at our Chapel,where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm Friday evening. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery.

Shannon L. Adams, 38, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, November 12, 2010 at a local hospital.
Shannon was born September 25, 1972 in St. Joseph. She was a 1992 graduate of Central High School and worked as a CNA at Vintage Gardens.
Shannon was preceded in death by her daughter, Jordan; paternal grandparents, Rose and Leroy Adams; maternal grandfather, George Muse and uncle Jim Adams.
Survivors include her daughter, Courtney; mother, Judy (Jerrie) Smith all of the home; father, Roy (Teresa) Adams; sister, Kelly (J.D.) Hay, all of St. Joseph; step-brothers, Terry Smith, Irmo, South Carolina, Johnnie Smith, Dallas, Texas; maternal grandmother, Louise Muse, St. Joseph; aunt, Donna Adams, Kansas City, Missouri; uncle, Rick Muse, Richmond, Virginia; niece and nephews, Brielle, Adam, Tyler, Dylan Hay and James Adams.

Raymond “Ray” C. Kerns, 69, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, November 11, 2010, at Heartland Regional Medical Center.
Raymond was born in St. Joseph, on February 27, 1941, to Raymond Edward and Doris Loraine (Haynes) Kerns.
Ray retired from the Air National Guard at Rosecrans Field as Chief Master Sgt. He received an award for “Outstanding NCO of the Year” 139th Airlift Group in 1994. He was also named Outstanding Sr. Non-Comissioned Officer of the Air National Guard Civil Engineering Squadron in 1993. He was an avid bowler and elected to St. Joseph and Missouri Hall of Fame. He was also active in coaching amateur sports.
Ray is survived by his parents; wife of 42 years, Rosemary (Randall) Kerns; son, Kevin Kerns; daughters, Stacey (Ron) Gillenwater, Trena (Kurt) Morrison, and Lisa (Bob) Beck; grandsons, Jonathan Parrack, Joey Parrack, Tanner Morrison and Kaden Gillenwater; granddaughter, Kelsey Gillenwater; great-granddaughter, Reilly Parrack; sisters, Vicki (Jerry) Sigrist, Deanna (Tom) Taylor, and Terry (Vernon) Miller and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ray was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be sadly missed.
Services 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery.

Davidson, Ivan Dale

Ivan Dale Davidson, 81, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, November 09, 2010 at a local hospital.
Dale was born in Barnard, Missouri to Stanley and Clara (Beattie) Davidson. He graduated from Horace Mann in Maryville, Missouri. Dale married Mildred Louise Berg on June 14, 1949, she preceded him in death on February 20, 2007.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Hilda Lamb and Helen Davidson.
Dale worked at Tebow Decorators as a painter in Maryville. He then began a 31 year career as a truck driver for Affiliated Foods, retiring in 1991.
Dale was a member of St. James Holy Name Society, Promenaders Square Dance Club and Teamsters Local 460. As he raised his family, Dale worked with Cub Scouts and softball leagues. After retiring, he volunteered with the Calvin Center and was a building attendant for Joyce Raye Patterson Senior Center.
Dale is survived by sons, Steven Davidson, and wife Michele, St. Joseph, Dennis Davidson, and wife Debbie, Kansas City, Missouri; daughter, Diane Johnson and husband, Monte, Easton, Missouri; grandchildren, Michael Davidson, Jonathan Davidson, Scott Johnson, Rebecca Davidson, Emily Davidson, Katherine Johnson; and three great-grandsons; Dalton and Tyson Cook and Aidan Smith.
Mass of Christian Burial 10 am, Thursday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, St. Joseph. Visitation will begin after 12:00 noon, Wednesday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 pm with a rosary at 6:30 pm Wednesday evening. Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery, Maryville, Missouri.
Through his sense of humor and sensitivity, Dale touched a lot of people and will be greatly missed. “He was one of a kind.”

She was born in St. Joseph on September 25, 1950, to Billy J. and Margaret L. (Rollett) Kerns
She was of the Baptist faith, and had done factory work most of her life. She loved her kids, grandchildren and playing Bingo.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Lyle Ray Gibson.
Survivors include her husband, Frank Gibson, of the home; daughter, Kristine R. Galvan, Agency, MO; sons, Leroy (Sandra) Gibson and Daniel “Joe” (Robin) Kerns, all of St. Joseph, MO; sisters, Dorothy (Lee) Caton, Savannah, MO and Rita (Paul) Mitchell, Dearborn, MO; brothers, Roger (Betty) Cameron, Edgerton, KS and Billy J. (Debbie) Kerns, II, Wathena, KS; grandchildren, Tiffany and DJ Kerns, Dylan and Bailey Gibson and Colton and Faith Galvan, great-grandson, Andrew; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Lisa was born in St. Joseph, MO on August 22, 1963. She was a graduate of Lafayette High School. She was the office manager for Camoular, Inc. until becoming disabled in 2002.
She was preceded in death by her father, William E. Dowlen, III; and one sister, April Annette Dowlen.

Lois L.Thompson, 91, St. Joseph, MO, passed away Saturday, November 6, 2010, at her home.
Born in Clarinda, Iowa, on October 2, 1919, Lois moved to St. Joseph and attended school, married and had one child. She worked at Westab as a wrapper, retiring after 37 years.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence R.and Gertrude E. (Endsley) Miller; husband, Charles Bernard Thompson in 1996; brother, Tracy B. Miller and sisters, Dickie Jean Heard, Shirley Lee Phillips, Ruth A. Logan and Bonnie L. Simmons.
Survivors include her daughter Linda Leftin and son-in-law, Gary Leftin, St. Joseph, MO; grandchildren, Chad Leftin, St. Joseph, MO and Adeana Friesen, Lincoln, NE; five great-randchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Almedia Maude Etchison, 91, St. Joseph, MO, passed away Sunday, November 7, 2010, at Saxton Woods Care Center.
Born and raised in St. Joseph, Almedia was a graduate of Central High School and a member of South Park United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bird and Maude (Carroll) Dolton; husband, Ronnie L. Etchison, Sr. in 1994; one brother and one sister.
Survivors include her son, Ronnie Etchison and wife Linda, St. Joseph, MO; grandchildren, Diana (Seth) Lundberg, Mary (Terry) Rice, Ralph (Shannon) Dunn and Ronnie Etchison; great-grandchildren, Dayn Lundberg, Layne Dunn, Lillyan Lundberg, Wesley Lundberg, Jason Rice and Cayce Rice.

Alice D. Brown, 91, St. Joseph, MO, and formerly of Kansas City, MO, passed away Friday, November 5, 2010, at Carriage Square Health Care Center.
Born April 6, 1919, at Wathena, Kansas, Alice was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in St. Joseph. She married Thomas Brown in 1943. They co-owned and operated Gladstone Insurance in Kansas City. Following their retirement, they moved back to St. Joseph in 1992.
Thomas passed away in 1998. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Dora Ruhnke; sister, Carmelita Sinclair and brother, Paul Ruhnke, Jr.
Survivors include sisters, Marguerite Swartz, St. Joseph, MO and Carol (Richard) McKittrick, Topeka, KS; sister-in-law, Elsie Ruhnke, Wathena, KS; brother-in-law, Dr. William Showers, Tucson, AZ; four nieces, four nephews and numerous grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Services 11:00 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Pastor Terry Weinhold and Pastor David Moore co-officiating. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery.

Hayes, James R. “Bob”

James R. “Bob” Hayes, age 85, St. Joseph, MO, passed away Thursday, November 4, 2010, at Heartland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Frazier, Missouri, on July 30, 1925, he lived in St. Joseph for most of his life. Mr. Hayes was a graduate of Central High School, attended St. Joseph Junior College, and graduated from Missouri Western State College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice. He received his Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Central Missouri State University. He was a member of Wyatt Park Baptist Church.
Mr. Hayes was appointed to the St. Joseph Police Department on February 1, 1956. From 1956 to August 1, 1968, he served as an Accident Investigator, Detective and Director of Training. On August 1, 1968, he resigned to take the position of Director of Security at Missouri Western State College. In 1973 he was employed as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Criminal Justice and held that position until he was appointed Chief of Police on August 1, 1978. On October 25, 1989, he took a medical retirement.
Mr. Hayes drafted the first manual for the Security Department at the former Missouri Methodist Hospital and organized the Security Department at Missouri Western State College. He served as Director of Security at Missouri Western State College from 1968 to 1973.
He was a former member and past-president of the Missouri-Kansas F.B.I. National Academy Graduates. He served on the Board of the Salvation Army, St. Joseph Symphony Board, and the Faculty Senate at Missouri Western State College.
He was one of forty educators selected by the State of Missouri to attended a National Drug Education Program at San Francisco College in 1973, returning to teach drug education and assist in establishing drug programs for schools throughout Northwest Missouri. He also served as a member of the Governors Crime Commission under Governor John Ashcroft.
Mr. Hayes was a former member of the Masonic Bodies in St. Joseph and had served as Worthy Patron four times in the St. Joseph Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. He was a former member of the Missouri Police Chiefs Association, and International Association of Chiefs of Police.
Mr. Hayes attended Penn Valley Community College where he received his certification as a polygraph operator. He attended the F.B.I. National Academy in 1964, Training Officer Course at the University of Indiana in 1967 and the Missouri Highway Patrol Academy in 1961.
During WW II, he served as a Parachutist and was assigned to the Parachute Command School at Fort Benning, Georgia. He was a member of the all Parachute Jump Band assigned to the Command School.
On May 26, 1945, he married Pauline Bessant of Phenix City, Alabama. She died in 2007. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Claude C. and Sarah (Bledsoe) Hayes and a son, James R. Hayes, Jr.
Survivors include a son Stephen Craig Hayes and wife Marcia, St. Joseph and four grandchildren, Casey and wife Ashley, Maddison, Christopher, Stephanie and two great-grandchildren.
Services 1:30 p.m. Monday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Burial Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will begin after 1:00 p.m. Sunday at the Chapel, where the family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Hayes Criminal Justice Scholarship, at MWSU Foundation.

Evalyn Lee Mallett, 101, St. Joseph, MO, passed away Thursday, November 4, 2010, at Saxton Woods health care center.
Evalyn was born on September 10, 1909, in DeKalb, Missouri, to Henry S. and Virginia Lee Mallett.
She worked as a nurse’s aide at St. Joseph Hospital for several years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Virginia Peck, Ruth Sparks, Lucille McKenzie; two brothers, Henry Mallett and Roy Mallett; and nieces and nephews, Billy Peck, Virginia and Jim Jones, and Maxine and Oliver Peck, Jr.
Survivors include nieces and nephews, Dorothy Peck, Rita and Warren Shuck and Jerry & Linda Peck and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
Graveside Services 10:00 a.m. Monday at Westlawn Cemetery, DeKalb, Missouri, under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Pastor Aaron Robb officiating.

Born in Albany to Bert and Edna Davis; Vernie worked for Noma Lights and the St. Joseph School District.
She was preceded in death by parents and husband, Foster C. Lane.
Surviving are brothers, Jim and Norman Davis and sister, Opal Mikes.

Opal Whitaker, 100, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, November 1, 2010, at a St. Joseph health care center.
Opal was born on December 12, 1909, in Fairport, Missouri, to Clifford and Alice (Moore) Warthman. She was a lifelong member of Unity Church of St. Joseph and a past member of Order of Eastern Star. She married Robert L. Whitaker on August 31, 1927, in Maysville, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and sister, Faye Fritts.
Survivors include her son, Robert W. Whitaker, Muskogee, OK; granddaughters, Barbara (Rob) McAtee, Overland Park, KS and Terri Godman, Muskogee, OK; grandson, Tim Whitaker, Paducah, KY; eight great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Richard “Dick” Zachary, 79, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, November 1, 2010, at his home.
Dick was born on February 27, 1931, in Mound City, MO, to Ralph B. and Kathleen (Kennish) Zachary. They preceded him in death, along with sister, Helen Thiesfield, and brothers, Willis Zachary and Paul Zachary.
Dick worked for 37 years as a school teacher for the Faucett and Savannah School Districts. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, and was a member of New Liberty Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nancy Lea Sharp, whom he married on March 11, 1951 in Mound City, Missouri. Other survivors include daughter Ann Morgan and husband John, Kansas City, MO, and son, R. Alan Zachary and wife Vicki, of Spring, TX; five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; brother, Ralph Zachary; and three sisters, Phyllis Boyle, Kathryn Zachary and Myrtina Dunigan.

Jacqueline (Anderson) Ray, 72, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, November 1, 2010 at a local health care center.
Jacqueline was born February 4, 1938 in Middleton, Ohio to Jack Kenneth and Marguirite (Haddox) Anderson. She was raised in Riverside, California and came to St. Joseph in 1955.
Jacqueline married Avery Elroy Ray on May 5, 1986, he survives of the home.
Additional survivors of the home are daughter, Megan Phillippe; and grandchildren, Zach and Kaitlin Randolph and Regan Blair.
Jacqueline was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Bob and Kenneth “Gene” Anderson; sisters, Susan Anderson and Carolyn Kaleman; husband, Eugene Milbourn; step-son, Warren Milbour; grandson, Warren Scott Milbourn; and four granddaughters, Peggy Joann Milbourn, Ruby Sweet, Rosalynd and Isabella Phillippe.

Mrs. Ray has been cremated under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. There will be no services or visitation at our Chapel, however a register book will be available to sign. Inurnment Mayetta, Kansas Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to American Diabetes Association or American Heart Association.
