Victor Hugo Munoz Varela, 53, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, December 30, 2010 at Heartland Regional Medical Center.

Victor was born August 11 1957 in Costa Rica to Victor Julio Munoz and Alicia Sanchez Varela.

He was a loving father and mentor of two daughters; Michelle Vanessa Munoz and Jennifer Munoz, both of Jamaica, New York.

Additional survivors include; his sisters, Yamileth and Maria Isabel Munoz; and his mother, living in his homeland of Costa Rica.

Mr. Munoz has been cremated under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. There will be no visitation or services at our Chapel, however a register book will be available to sign.

The family requests that you say a prayer for his soul to be at peace and keep them in your prayers.

Bonney L. Foster, 85, of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away on Friday, December 31, 2010 at a local health care center.

Bonney was born on May 28, 1925 in Milan, Missouri to Clyde F. and Eva K. (King) Foster. She graduated from Central High School and worked for Armour & Co. until her retirement.

Bonney was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Keyth Foster.

She is survived by her caregivers Linda and Wally Anderson.

Services 1:00pm Tuesday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Meeks, Ellen Louise

Ellen Louise Meeks, 96, St. Joseph, Missouri went to meet her Lord on Thursday, December 29, 2010 at her daughter’s home.

Louise was born March 6, 1914 in Troy, Kansas to Jesse and Martha (Ratcliff) Pollard. She was educated in Troy schools and attended Platt Gard Business College.

She was married November 14, 1934 to Herschel Meeks. He preceded her in death in 1970. Three children were born to their marriage, a son, Jerry, also preceded her in death in 1988. She was also preceded by six brothers, Clarence, Jewell, Chester, Bruce,
Ralph, Robert and three sisters, Esther, May and Dorothy.

Louise was employed by Quaker Oats for 35 years. She was a unit leader and a tour guide. She was a former member of the Lovers Land Chapter of ABWA. She was a member of Wyatt Park Baptist Church, Quaker Bowling League, member of the United Cereal Workers Union; a member of the Quaker Ladies Social Club and Wyatt Park Baptist Church “Just Us Gals” . After retiring from Quaker Oats, she was a caregiver for the elderly for 15 years.

Surviving are a daughter, Dolores Blair and her husband, Robert, of St. Joseph; a son, Jimmy, and his wife, Sandra, of Country Club, Missouri a sister, Ruth Kirk of Westminster, Colorado; ten grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren.

Services 3 pm, Monday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Visitation will begin after 9 am Sunday at our Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm Sunday evening. Interment Mount Olive Cemetery, Troy, Kansas.

A luncheon will be held at 1:30 pm Monday at our Chapel, just prior to the service. The family suggests memorial contributions to American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.

Hamblin, Maxine E.

Maxine E. Hamblin, 71, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, December 29, 2010.

Maxine was born September 29, 1939 in Rushville, Missouri to Warren and Margaret (George) Chase. She was a waitress at the Pioneer Hotel and also worked at Chase.

She was married to Donald F. Hamblin on December 3, 1987, he preceded her in death in 1995. She was also preceded by her parents, one sister and two brothers.

Survivors include sons, Robert George, New Point, Missouri, Gregory George, St. Joseph; daughter, Vicki Heideman, Hopkins, Missouri. grandchildren, Sara Noble, Gregory (Tasha) George, Christy George, Robert George, Jr, Bobby Heideman, Natasha Heideman; ten great-grandchildren; sisters, Katherine Malloy, Maricopa, Arizona; Mary Russell, St. Joseph and many other family members and friends.

Services 11:30 am, Monday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Visitation will begin after 11 am Sunday at our Chapel where the family will receive friends from 4 to 6 pm. Interment Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, Kansas.

Anna M. (Hager) Frank, 92, lifelong resident of St. Joseph, MO, passed away Wednesday, December 29, 2010, at her home.

Anna was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church; St. Ann’s Altar Society, Daughters of Isabella and was a past-president of V.F.W. Post #1668 Auxiliary. She loved to bowl, until 2005. She worked as a machine operator at Westab, retiring after 38 years.

Anna was preceded in death by her parents, George and Veronica (Wegenka) Hager; husband, John “Joe” Frank in 1974; grandson, Marty Williams; great granddaughter, Sarah Ellis; three brothers; and four sisters.

Anna is survived by daughter, Martha Frank, St. Joseph, MO; son, John Frank, Port Charlotte, FL; sisters, Agnes Drag (twin), and Helen Ortman, both of St. Joseph, MO; brother, Clarence Hager, Laurie, MO; four grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2011, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Irion, Brian James “B”

Overland Park, KS – Brian James “B” Irion, 33, formerly of St. Joseph, MO, battled glioblastoma brain cancer fiercely and dignified for the past ten months.

Brian was born April 20, 1977, in St. Joseph, MO, where he graduated from Central High School in 1995. After graduation, Brian ventured out on his own to Colorado, where he worked as a lift operator at Keystone Resort to fund his love of snowboarding and mountain biking for three years.

When returning to the Kansas City area, he trained for three years as a Sous Chef under an Executive French Chef in St. Joseph, MO. Brian’s last four years were spent as a Sushi Chef in Overland Park, KS. He was extremely dedicated to his family, friends and profession. He had been involved in volunteer work in the Kansas City Metro area.

After fighting his courageous battle, our dearest Brian passed on this day, 12/27/10. He is loved and will be remembered by his family and friends.

Brian is survived by father, Gary Irion, mother, Deborah Martin, sisters, Alissa and husband, Chad Leftin, Christi Irion and Lauren Irion; step-mother, Terry Lipira; niece and nephew, Paige and Shae Leftin; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents.

He was preceded in death by grandparents and one uncle.

Memorial Service 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Brandi Stull officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Grasty, James “Albert”

James “Albert” Grasty died on December 27, 2010. He leaves behind his wife & best friend of 38 years Willa Grasty. His children he loves more than life, Bradley Grasty and Melody Berry of Saint Joseph and son-in-law Rory Berry; three beloved grandchildren Quentin and Sasha Berry & Kamden Peppers. He leaves behind his mother Jo Ann Brown of Maryville, Sisters Shirley Carver of Smithville, Sharon Leslie of Savannah and a brother Gary Grasty of Clarinda.

He was preceded in death by his father Clinton Grasty of Savannah, Step-father Bob Brown his grandparents Adam and Annie Havet of Forest City and George and Marcella Grasty of Oregon.

Albert was a man that truly loved his family and friends and had a true servant’s heart. He was always there to lend a hand and help others in need. He was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed until we meet him again in heaven.

Memorial Service 4:00 p.m. Thursday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. The family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to the service.

Louise East, 96, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, December 27, 2010 at a local hospital.

Louise was born December 16, 1914 in St. Joseph, Missouri to George and Mabel (Saunders) Rickerson.

Louise married Albert Theodore East, he preceded her in death on January 5, 1983. She was a housewife and worked for 12 years at McCarthy Day Care. Louise was also a lifetime member of McCarthy Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, Louise was preceded by her parents; son, Robert East; two brothers, Raymond and James Rickerson and sister, Marguerite Ramsey.

Survivors include daughters, Betty J. (Jim) Noel, St. Joseph; Lois J. (Dennis) Justice, Kansas City, Missouri; daughter-in-law, Barbara East, St. Joseph; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

All who want to celebrate Louise’s life, please join the family for a graveside service 12 Noon, Wednesday at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm Tuesday evening at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel.

Marge M. Tucker, 88, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, December 23, 2010 at a local health care center.

Marge was born November 22, 1922 in New Hampton, Missouri to George and Ruth (Cox) Weegar and attended school in St. Joseph.

She married Richard Tucker in St. Joseph on January 17, 1949, he survives of the home. Marge was a housewife and was devoted to her husband and family. During her early retirement years, the couple was very active in the Avion Travel Group.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Additional survivors include daughter, Deanna (Robert) Hewins, Lenexa, Kansas; grandsons, Scott (Kelly) Hewins, Craig Hewins; granddaughter, Jill (Scott) Butler; great-grandchildren, Jackie and Bryson Hewins, Hallie and Jessica Butler.

Mrs. Tucker has been cremated under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. There will be no visitation or services at our Chapel, however a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Gregory Scott Bokay, 47, Gardner, Kansas, passed away at Olathe Medical Center early Christmas morning, after a brief illness.

Greg was born in St. Joseph on August 23, 1963 to John E.”Red” and Constance “Connie” (Cates) Bokay.

Greg attended Central High School and served in the Army.

He was preceded in death by his father, John “Red”, in 1996.

Surviving him are, his daughters, Brandi of the home, Holly Terrell of Surprise, Arizona and Greg’s two grandsons; five brothers, Dennis, Terry, Tim, St. Joseph, Kevin, St. Paul, Minnesota, Jack, Vancouver, Washington; four sisters, Connie Robbins, Becky Bokay, both of St. Joseph, Karen Chambers, Coppell, Texas, and Mary Hayes, Kansas City, Missouri.

Greg was a loyal fan of the Royals, Chiefs and MU.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm, Tuesday evening at Heaton-Bowman- Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Mr. Bokay has been cremated. Lois Yarnell, 80, St. Joseph, Missouri, went into the loving arms of God, Wednesday, December 22, 2010, at her home, with her family by her side.

Lois was born on September 9, 1930, in St. Joseph. She was a devoted member of Frederick Boulevard Baptist Church. She enjoyed studying the Bible. She worked for Townsend & Wall as a housewares buyer for many years and later at Ryan’s World Gift Shop.

Lois was preceded in death by her mother, Beatrice (Blosser) Miller; father and mother, K.H. & Mae Miller; husband, R.C. “Pete” Yarnell; and daughter Ann (Yarnell) Joslin.

Survivors include her son Dave (Robin) Yarnell; sister, Sue Parton and brother, Kenneth (Mary) Miller, who were raised in the home; son-in-law, Howard (Fran) Joslin; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lois was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She will be missed by all whose lives she touched.

Services: 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 29, 2010, at Frederick Boulevard Baptist Church with interment at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Paula R. Cambron, 67, passed away Wednesday, December 15, 2010.

Paula worked at Heartland Regional Medical Center, and later went into home health care. Paula then worked at SST, from where she retired in 2008.

She is preceded in death by her son, Patrick Cambron and parents, Francis and Lois Albers.

Survivors include her son, Greg Cambron of Houston, TX; daughters, Desiree Cambron of St. Joseph, MO; Kelly Christian of Missouri City, TX; sister, Rita Ackerson of Wichita; 5 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

Koenig, Ernest A.

Easton, MO- Ernest A. “Ernie” Koenig, 83, passed away Thursday, December 23, 2010, at Heartland Regional Medical Center.

Ernie was born on May 26, 1927, in St. Joseph, MO to Ernest B. and Mary C. (Krawczyk) Koenig.
He was a graduate of Christian Brothers High School and a member of Seven Dolors Catholic Church. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict.

Ernie farmed for over fifty years and worked as an electrician for Korns Electrical, Beadnall Electrical and Schultz Electric and had been a member of I.B.E.W. Local 545 for over sixty years.

Ernie married Barbara Ann Fisher on January 14, 1950. She passed away on May 31, 2008, after fifty-eight years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by his parents; son, Ernest T. Koenig and sister, Dorothy Koenig.

Survivors include his son Tom (Alicia) Koenig, Easton, MO; daughter, JoAnne (Rob) Wharton, Newton, KS; five grandchildren, Jayson (Imelda) Headrick, Josh (Wendy) Headrick, Jacquelyn (Jeremy) Couser, Justin (Lindsay) Koenig, who are expecting his great-grandson, William Thomas Koenig at any time, and Jacob Koenig.

Crystal A. Schweizer Adkins, 99, of Savannah, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at Shady Lawn Nursing Home, Savannah, Missouri.

Crystal was born on January 10, 1911 in Savannah, Missouri to Jacob “J.C.” and Hedwig (Segesman) Schweizer and was a lifelong resident.

She married Merle Adkins on August 16, 1930. He preceded her in death on June 10, 1997. She was also preceded by her parents and one brother, Lloyd Schweizer; three sisters, Inda Taylor, Helen Schweizer and Ruby Adkins.

Crystal was a school teacher and farm wife. She later worked for the Selective Service System for 16 years until her retirement. She and her husband formed the Adkins Construction Company and developed the Adkins subdivision in Savannah, Missouri. Crystal was a member of the Savannah Christian Church and Business and Professional Women.

Survivors include one son, Wilton Adkins and one daughter, Kathleen Potter; one sister, Estella Mae Miller, all of Savannah, Missouri; six grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services 11 a.m. Monday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith Savannah Chapel, 307 S. 6th Street. Interment Savannah Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 9:00am Sunday at our Savannah Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00pm.

Ermel “Erma’ L. Propes, 78, St. Joseph, Missouri, went to be with her loved ones Thursday, December 23, 2010.

Erma was born on July 13, 1932, in Guilford, Missouri, to Lyle and Lucille (Schmitt) Wales. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Debby Raines; son David Propes; two grandchildren, Amy Lynn Propes and Darby Lee Raines; one great-grandchild, Lindsey Raelyn Helton; brother, Dale Wales, sister Lois Hewitt and her children’s father, Derrell Lee “Buck” Propes.

Erma had tended bar and worked as a waitress at Bill’s Place and Monty’s for over thirty years. She enjoyed the outdoors, cooking, crafting and playing cards with her friend and companion. Roger Owens. She also enjoyed collecting hearts, bells, angels, birds and blue glass. Erma was very thrifty and could make something out of nothing. Her greatest love of all was for her children, for whom she would do anything.

Erma will be sadly missed by son, Donny (Wanda) Propes, Fillmore, MO; two daughters, Dea (Terry “Frizz”) Atkins, St. Joseph, MO and Dovie (Marcus) Smith, Gower, MO; son, Douglas “Poncho” (Aimee) Propes, Easton, MO; thirteen grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Genny Wales; loving friend Roger Owens; son-in-law, David Raines, Buckner, MO; sister Marvel Gray (Glenn), Independence, MO and several neices and nephews.

L. Kenneth Sandusky, 86, St. Joseph, MO, passed away Tuesday, December 21, 2010, at North Kansas City Hospital.

Kenneth was born on June 24, 1924, in Hamilton, MO, to John and Nettie Sandusky. He served in the Army Air Corp, during World War II, and was stationed in China. He was employed at Stauffer Publications, in Topeka, KS, retiring as marketing coordinator. While living in Topeka, he was a member of Most Pure Heart Catholic Church and later became a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in St. Joseph.

He married Margaret Louise Scott on August 30, 1947, in St. Joseph, MO. She passed away on December 29, 2007, He was also preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Earl, Kermit and Max Sandusky; and sisters, Gayle, LaRue and LaFern.

Kenneth is survived by two sons, Tom Sandusky and wife Susan, Atlanta, GA and Tim Sandusky and wife Denise, Merriam, KS; two grandsons, Scott Sandusky, Washington, D.C. and Eric Sandusky, Denver, CO.

Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Sallie F. Pettit, 85, St. Joseph, MO, passed away Friday, December 17, 2010, at a Hamilton, MO health care center.

Sallie was born in St. Joseph on November 26, 1925, to Herman and Etta (Taylor) Pease. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters.

She worked for Noma Lights in St. Joseph for several years and loved country music.

Sallie married Jewell Petitt in July, 1975 in St. Joseph. He survives of the home. Other survivors include her brother, Robert Pease, St. Joseph, MO; her nephew, James Buck and wife Mary Sue, Mission, TX and several other nieces and nephews.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Rev. Bill Parrott officiating. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will begin after 11:00 a.m. Sunday at the Chapel, where the family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening.

Mary A. Burns, 91, St. Joseph, MO, passed away Tuesday, December 14, 2010, in St. Joseph

Mary was born February 18, 1919, in Kansas City, Missouri, the fourth of five children, of Frank J. and Mary Frances (Brandecker) Dunleavy. She attended school in Kansas City and graduated with the Class of 1936 at Westport High School

After high school, she worked as a bank teller until her marriage to Leo Burns on September 2, 1939, at St. James Catholic Church in Kansas City, MO. Thereafter, she was a homemaker and devoted mother to their five children, three boys and two girls.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Eldon Foster; two brothers and two sisters.

Mary is survived by her husband, Leo C. Burns, of Living Community of St. Joseph; children and their spouses, David and Patty, St. Joseph, MO, John and Carol, St. Joseph, MO, Paul and Paula, Ft. Worth, TX, Kathleen and Bud Babcock, St. Joseph, MO, and Ruth Anne Foster, Edmond, OK. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Scott and Linda Burns, Diane Jacobs, Christopher Babcock, Brian and Christy Foster, Jeff and Erica Foster, Karen and Jeremy Colbert and Katie Burns. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren.

Mary was a member of the Altar Society of Our Lady of Guadalupe; Christian Brothers Patronist Club and Bishop Le Blond PTO. Her life was devoted to her family and extended family. She passed away at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Bud Babcock.

Mass of Christian Burial 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

DeVore, Glen E.

Glen E. DeVore, 82, St. Joseph, MO, passed away peacefully at home on December 13, 2010. Although he lost his battle with cancer, he won the gift of eternal life with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Glen was born August 16, 1928, in rural Clarksdale, MO to Harland and Maxine (Miller) DeVore.
From age four, he resided in St. Joseph, where he attended Noyes School and Central High School.

Glen later served in the U.S Air Corps, 1946-1948, as a radio operator in Manilla, Phillipines and Shanghai, China.

In 1949, Glen married Vicki Savarino and later divorced. On March 4, 1966, he married Judy A. Wray, who survives of the home.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Dale and Darrell; two grandchildren, Jennifer Tamerius and Bobby Clinton.

Glen’s employers include Rainbow Bakery, Goetz/Pearl Brewing Co. and Dugdale Packing Co. In 1993, he retired from the Recycling Corporation, where he served as manager for fourteen years and became known to many as the “Can Man”.

Glen attended Brookdale Presbyterian Church for many years and later became a member of Word of Life Church. Throughout his life, he served his church in a variety of capacities. He was a man of strong faith.

Glen is also survived by five children, Glen E. DeVore Jr. (Cynthia), St. Paul, MN; Ted DeVore, Kansas City; Carol Ann DeVore, Kansas City; Judy Tamerius (Dan), St. Joseph and Cindy Bivens (Nathan), Columbia, MO.

Also surviving are a sister, Marge Sansone, St. Joseph, MO; seven grandchildren, April Payne, Angela Allison, Christina Early, Annelise DeVore, Danielle DeVore, Glen DeVore III and Allison Bivens and ten great-grandchildren.

Glen will be fondly remembered as an avid reader and collector of literature, a jazz enthusiast and a film buff. He kept his mind sharp through memorization of interesting facts and quotations, working daily crossword puzzles, and faithfully watching Jeopardy. He was an exceptional story teller and enjoyed recording his memories for us in his journals. Most importantly, Glen was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.

Services 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Word of Life Church. Interment Bethel Cemetery, Cosby, MO.

Wilma F. Hughs, 81, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, December 13, 2010 at Saxton Woods Care Center.

Wilma was born in Bevier, Missouri, to DeWillis and Gladys (Nett) Adams. She was a 1947 graduate of Central High School and attended Platt-Gard Business College in St. Joseph.

Wilma was elected by VFW Post #1668 Auxilliary as Secretary-Treasurer for twenty-six years. She had been a member for thirty-five years and also a member of various bowling leagues for forty years.

Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Karen Kay Brown and Connie Lynne Williams and one son, Maurice Glenn Hughs, Jr.

Wilma married Maurice Glenn Hughs on November 6, 1948, in Savannah, MO. He survives of the home. She also leaves behind two sons, Wesley (Ivey) Grant, Durant, OK and Todd Allen, St. Joseph, MO; brother, James Wesley (Susie) Adams; sister, Carolyn Sue (Rick) Caton, all of St. Joseph, MO; ten grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Services 3:00 p.m. Friday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery.

Colleen Vale, 86, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away on Monday, December 13, 2010, at Heartland Regional Medical Center.

Colleen was born on August 22, 1924, in Kirksville, Missouri. She moved to Columbia and attended school, graduating from Hickman High School. She received her Associate Degree from Columbia College and completed her BA in Art Education from the University of Missouri. She married and began her career as an art teacher. In 1963, she relocated to St. Joseph, where she taught art at Bode and Eugene Field Schools, retiring in 1983.

Colleen was a Christian. She was a member of PEO, Chapter BJ; Albrecht Art Gallery; Allied Arts and “Art For The Health of It” program through Heartland.

Colleen was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Wineva (Wilson) Spencer; husband Joe Donald Vale; brother, James Spencer and son, John Vale.

She will be sadly missed by daughter, Sandra Fry, St. Joseph, MO; son, Joe (Janie)Vale, Columbia, MO; grandchildren, Jeremy, Preston, Whitley, Megan, Max, Derek and Becky; great-grandchildren, Kinsley, Annie and Emma; sister, Joyce Rojas and niece, Alice Thomas.

Mrs. Vale has been cremated. Memorial Service 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel.

Boling, Robert “Bobby”

Robert went home to our heavenly Father on December 9, 2010.

He was born September 12, 1962 in Chicago, Illinois to Gerald Boling and Linda Mattox. Gerald W. and Linda divorced in 1970, of this marriage was Robert and his sister Tawny Boling-Moran were born. Linda went on to marry Richard Cellarius and moved back to St. Joseph and Robert and his sister were raised there.

Robert attended Lafayette High School. He then went on to marry twice. His first marriage produced three daughters. Robert had a son Richard Wade. He then married Penny Wilson of St. Joseph.

He was a CNA and also held various other jobs until he severely injured in 2002.

He was an adventurous soul who loved and enjoyed life.

He was preceded in death by his step father, Richard Cellarius and one sister Vicki Berlin.

He is survived by his father Gerald and his mother Linda; sister, Tawny; a son; three daughters; wife Penny and two step children.

Robert will be solely missed, but never forgotten by many who loved him (family and friends) and his dear friends in Kansas City, especially Sharon Rupp and family, a very dear and close friend in the latter years of his life.

Rest in peace son, in the arms of the angels, surrounded by God’s abundant love. We will join you soon. 3!!! Son 3.

Las Vegas, NV- Estella E. Groenke, 92, formerly of St. Joseph, MO, went peacefully into the arms of the Lord, on December 8, 2010, to be with her husband, Leonard L. Groenke, who passed away April 25, 1994.

Estella was born March 19, 1918, in St. Joseph, MO, the daughter of Frederick and Georgia Beiland. She and her family lived in Burbank, CA for many years where she worked for General Motors until 1971. She then worked for Erwin Wasey Advertising in Los Angeles, CA. She spent her retirement years in St. Joseph, Uncasville, CT and Las Vegas, NV.

She leaves behind daughter, Terry Gailey of Las Vegas and her daughter Debi Griffen of Oakhurst, CA; daughter, Sharon and husband Charles Nolan of Uncasville, CT and their son Jeremy Nolan of Sioux City, IA; her sister Maxine Waldroff of St. Joseph and her son Robert Waldroff and daughter Janice Heusel; three great-grandchildren, Nate, Sam and Zac and many nieces and nephews.

Services 12:00 noon Thursday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Interment Ashland Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 10:00am Thursday at our chapel.

Campbell, Dennis L.

Dennis L. Campbell, 61, of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at the local hospital.

Dennis was born on December 18, 1948 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Dale and Ina (Siebert) Campbell. He was a 1967 graduate of the Savannah High School and had spent most of his life in Helena, Missouri.

Dennis was a truck driver for Star Trans and Hulcher Emergency and most recently worked for Second Harvest Food Bank.

Dennis was an avid men’s fast pitch softball player, having played for many teams in
St. Joseph He also enjoyed fishing and traveling.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Ronnie Campbell and sister-in-law, Marjorie Campbell.

Dennis married Pamela J. DeRoin on August 16, 1980, she survives of the home.

Additional survivors include one daughter, Toni L. Peterson, husband Kevin, Easton, Missouri, son, Chad W. DeRoin, wife Anne, St. Joseph, Missouri; four grandchildren, Blake Peterson, wife Story, Mallory Peterson, Sydney DeRoin and Riley DeRoin; one brother, David Campbell, Weatherby, Missouri; two sisters, Connie Dobbe, St. Joseph, Missouri, Pam Campbell, Maryville, Missouri and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services 3:00pm Tuesday Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Mr. Campbell will be cremated following the service. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Neidinger, Charles R.

Charles R. Neidinger, 86, St. Joseph, MO, passed away Friday, December 10, 2010, at Heartland Regional Medical Center.

Born in St. Joseph on May 17, 1924, Charles graduated from Central High School in 1942 and briefly attended St. Joseph Junior College.

Charles entered military service on March 22, 1943 and served with the 377th Infantry in the European Theatre. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge and the Purple Heart. He was discharged from O’Reilly General Hospital in Springfield, MO on September 25, 1945.

Charles graduated from the University of Kansas in 1949 with a B.S. in Architectural Engineering. He worked ten years as a structural engineer in private practice in Kansas. He then spent twenty-eight years as a structural engineer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Louis District.

Charles was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church; past president of Southside Lions Club and Society of Structural Engineers.
On July 12, 1953, he married St. Joseph native, Delores D. Daly, at St. Paul Lutheran Church She survives of the home. Together, they lived in Topeka, KS, St. Louis, MO and Hannibal, MO. In 1986, Charles retired from the Corps of Engineers, and in 1988, they moved to St. Joseph to be near Delores’ ailing father.

Additional survivors include sons and spouses, Richard and Barbara Neidinger, Davidson, NC and Robert and Cindy Neidinger, St. Joseph, MO; three grandchildren, Mikel, David and Dana Neidinger and one great-grandson, Clay Neidinger.

Service 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Interment at Memorial Park Cemetery, in St. Joseph.

Visitation will begin after 9:00 a.m. Monday, where the family will receive friends and relatives 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday evening at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel.

Mary Lou Bennett, 67, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, December 3, 2010, at LaVerna Village in Savannah, MO.

Mary Lou was born of February 10, 1943, in St. Joseph, to Louie and Mary (Michalzdak) Cawley. e was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Pete Wallace and second husband Les Bennett. She had been owner-operator of a Residential Health Care Facility in St. Joseph.

Mary Lou is survived by her daughter Peggy (Danny) Schweder, Amazonia, MO; brother, Tom (Robin) Lewandowski, St. Joseph, MO; grandchildren Scott (Trish) Grissom, Ashley (Erich) Waitkoss and Danielle Schweder; and five great-grandchildren, Kinsley, Keeley, Evan, Mason and Boston.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Mary Lou’s extended family, LaVerna Village Staff.

Mrs. Bennett has been cremated under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. There will be no visitation or services. A registry book will be available for signing at the Chapel. Torres, John G.

John G. Torres, Jr. 92, of St. Joseph, Missouri started his journey with the Lord on Friday, December 3, 2010 at the local hospital.

John was born on April 29, 1918 in Kendall County, Texas to John G. and Refugio (Montanez) Torres, Sr.

He was a member of St. Joseph Cathedral and Our Lady of Snows, graduated from Christian Brothers High School and Michigan Technical School. John worked for Iowa Missouri Walnut for 43 years retiring in 1983.

John married Emma Mae Bringus on March 28, 1938 in St. Joseph, Missouri. She preceded him in death on January 21, 2006. He was also preceded by his parents and sixteen brothers and sisters.

Survivors include one son, Mark A. Torres and four daughters, Barbara Johnson, Sandra Gillilan, Patricia Long and Nancy Lafollette; thirteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchild and one sister, Mary Devaney.

Mass of Christian Burial 10:00am Monday at St. Joseph Cathedral. Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 11:00am Sunday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Rosary 6:00pm Sunday. The family will receive friends following the rosary until 8:30pm.

Kernes, Jesse “T.J.”

Jesse “T.J.” Kernes, 63, Agency, Missouri passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2010 at a local hospital.

T. J. was born February 12, 1947 in St. Joseph to Beune Vesta and Lucy Bell (Wilson) Kernes. He was raised in Agency and was married to Terry Fanning. They were wed for 37 years and the parents of three children, she survives of the home.

Jesse owned and operated T. J. Mobil Tire Service, T.J. Clean up and Hauling and for 16 years contracted with Blueside/Prime Tanning Companies.

For the last three years he was the owner of Woody’s Grocery in Agency, where he was a member of “Woody’s Grocery Round Table Coffee Group” every morning.

Preceding T. J. in death were his parents; stepfather, Lightle Bennett; two brothers, Robert and Roy Kernes; three sisters, Nettie, Mildred and Helen.

Additional survivors include daughters, Tawnya and Johnathan Chambers, Agency, Sawnya Williams, Faucett, Missouri; son, Roy Kernes, St. Joseph; three grandchildren, whom he loved dearly, Trey Williams, Jensen Chambers, Katie Kernes; three brothers, Cecil Kernes of Texas, Jerry Kernes, Easton, Missouri, Everett Kernes, Stewartsville, Missouri; half brother, James Bennett; numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Tom Fanning, who was a brother-in-law, but was always thought more of as a son.

Services 12 noon, Monday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Visitation will begin after 9 am Sunday at our Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 8 pm Sunday evening. Interment Agency Cemetery.

Olathe, KS-Linda E. (Roseberry) Daly, 67, formerly of St. Joseph, passed away Friday, December 3, 2010, in Olathe after a long battle with cancer.

Linda was born on January 25, 1943, in St. Joseph, to Virgil and Lorena (Heitman) Roseberry. She was a former member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, and currently a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church.

Linda was a nurse and enjoyed helping people throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Kathleen Marie Seever.

She married Thomas Patrick Daly on September 15, 1962, in St. Joseph. He survives of the home. Other survivors include her children, Tim Daly, Lenexa, KS, Therese (Jeff) Hinds, Olathe, KS, Joan (Scott) Winchell, Olathe, KS, Pam (Wayne) Stewart, Springhill, KS and Patty (Brian) Schober, Olathe, KS; thirteen grandchildren; three brothers, Harvey, Clint and Perry Roseberry, all of St. Joseph, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Prayer Service 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Visitation will begin after 12:00 noon Wednesday at the Chapel, where a Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Wed. The family will receive friends following the Rosary until 8:00 p.m.

McCue, Elaine Maye

Elaine Maye McCue, 93, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, December 5, 2010, at a local nursing home.

Elaine was born December 19, 1916 in Cameron, MO. She married Joseph Leonard McCue, a police officer, where they lived in St. Joseph.

Elaine retired as a machine operator from Nellie Don. Several of her hobbies were sewing, eating out, shopping and singing. She was of the Pentecostal faith and was a Christian.

Preceding her in death were her parents, step-sister and husband of forty-seven years.

She is survived by her step-sister, Joyce Schoeneck, of Elwood, KS and adopted daughter, Diane Routh of St. Joseph, MO. She will be sadly missed by family and friends.

Graveside Services 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel.

Savannah, MO-Estel Jewell Theis, 75, passed away Saturday, December 4, 2010, at his home.

Estel was born on April 23, 1935, near Clarksdale, MO. He was a graduate of Savannah High School and member of Frederick Boulevard Baptist Church. He worked as a farmer, carpenter and enjoyed restoring John Deere Tractors.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jewell and Pearl (Bodenhausen) Theis; and sister, Norma Herpel.

He married Leota DeVault on May 29, 1953. She survives of the home. Other survivors include daughter, Kathryn (David) Arn, Savannah, MO, son Mark (Deb) Theis, Fairbanks, Alaska and daughter, Barbara (Darrell) Tannahill, Kansas City, MO; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Agency, MO-Glenn A. Bishop, 71, passed away Saturday, December 4, 2010, at his home.

Glenn was born on March 9, 1939, in Moberly, Missouri. He completed his education at Benton High School, in St. Joseph. He was a member of Agency Christian Church. He married Mary Ann Khaler on August 21, 1959 at Calvary Baptist Church in St. Joseph. He started his career with the Railroad, then went to work for St. Joseph Structural Steel for several years. He later worked again for the Railroad, as a brakeman/switchman, until retiring ten years ago.

Glenn was preceded in death by his wife; parents, Charles and Vera (Null) Bishop; grandson, Levi Johnson and two sisters, Joyce Ann Utterback and Betty Murphy.

Survivors include two daughters, Sheila O’Meara and husband Jody, St. Joseph, MO and Dorwina “Dee” Johnson and husband Marcus, Dearborn, MO; sister, Shirley Gloden,, Kansas City, MO;brother-in-law, Clarence Khaler and wife Karlyn; sister-in-law, Barbara Anderman; grandson, Ryan O’Meara; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff on 2-East at Heartland Regional Medical Center, for the care given him and additional thanks to Kendallwood Hospice, who came to the home.

Services: 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Mr. Bishop will be cremated following the service. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date at Agency Cemetery, Agency, MO.

Hattiesburg, MS –Vernon DaleYager, 74, passed away Saturday, December 4, 2010, in St. Joseph, MO.

Vernon was born and raised in St. Joseph. He was a graduate of Lafayette High School, then earned a BS at American University in Washington D.C. He worked as an electrical engineer for Stone & Webster Engineering Co., building nuclear power plants. He attended Woodland Presbyterian Church in Hattiesburg.

Vernon was preceded in death by his mother, Lillian Boyko and sister, Ruth A. Brown.

He married Sory Shearer on March 15, 1981 at St. Francisville, LA. She survives of the home.
Additional survivors include his daughter, Deanna Lynn Himelright, Purcellville, VA; son, Carl Eugene Yager, Anchorage, AK; mother of his children, Maryle Tunks, Lee’s Summit, MO; bonus/step-children, Kathy (Homer) Coffman, Hattiesburg, MS, Rebecca Lynn Smith, St. Petersburg, FL, and Dale (Adria) Smith, LaJolla, CA; grandchildren: Justin (Alyson) Coffman, Ben Coffman and Giselle & Cooper Smith.; nephew, Jerry D. (Nancy) Brown, Lee’s Summit, MO; grand-nephew, Kyle Brown and his beloved Beagle, Snoopers.

Mary Zeltwanger, 91, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, December 03, 2010 at a local health care center.

Mary was born August 15, 1919 in Athens, Greece to Mesak and Argelo (Polonis) Erganian. She married Edwin Albert Zeltwanger on August 30, 1952; he preceded her in death September 1, 2009.

Mary was a homemaker. She was a long-standing member of King Hill United Methodist Church, most recently attending Wyatt Park Baptist Church.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Sophie Greenlee and one brother, John Erganian.

Survivors include daughters, Tamala Sakaguchi; St. Joseph, Robin Zeltwanger, St. Joseph, Shirley (Fred) Schoenlaub, Parkville, Missouri, Connie Burri, St. Joseph; son, Harry (Barbara) Wallace, St. Joseph; five grandchildren, Jeff (Lori) Wallace, Brooke (David) Cowan, Breht ( Judy) Burri, Brian (Cindy) Burri, and Peter (Marti) Burri; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Victoria Murray, St. Joseph and Zartis Greenlee, Union City, California.

Memorial service will be held at 2 pm, Tuesday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service. Mrs. Zeltwanger will be cremated. Inurnment for Edwin and Mary Zeltwanger will be held at Ft. Leavenworth National Cemetery at a later date.

Lawler, James R.

James R. Lawler, 92, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, December 2, 2010at Missouri Veterans Home in Cameron, Missouri.

James was born January 11, 1918 in Henry County, Missouri to William and Emma (Burnside) Lawler. He served his country in the United States Army during WorldWar II.

James married Catherine Coleman on January 11, 1942 in Harrisonville, Missouri; she survives of the home. He owned and operated the Hyde Park 66 service station in south St. Joseph. James enjoyed traveling, fishing and reading, as well as woodworking and gardening, after he retired.

James was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Chester Lawler and sister, Gladys Lacy.

Additional survivors include children, James (Marcia) Lawler, Berthoud, Colorado, Carol (Thomas) Fairlie, St. Joseph, Robert (Mary Lou) Lawler, Jacksonville, Florida; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services 10 am, Tuesday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Visitation will begin after 9 am Sunday at our Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 pm, Monday evening. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery.

Geha, William “Bill”

William “Bill” Joseph Geha, 89, born October 25, 1921, in Kansas City, Missouri went to be with God on Friday, December 3, surrounded by his loving family.

Bill graduated from Christian Brothers High School and earned an Associates Degree from University of Iowa. He was a veteran of World War II and, upon discharge, opened and operated Star Furniture Company.

Bill was a member of Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church. He was an avid fisherman and an extraordinary jazz musician. He was the leader of the Bill Geha Orchestra who played numerous gigs at the Frog Hop and other venues.

Bill’s extreme faith in God and love of his family were his two most precious gifts.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his daughter, Linda Sue Geha.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Allene Marie Deel Geha and their 11 children and spouses, Bill Geha, Nancy Geha, Jane Treat, Mary and Rock Rogers, Joseph Geha, Michael Geha, Peggy and Nelson Eddy, John and Nan Geha, Molly and Danny O’Rourke, Jim and Dana Geha, Tom and Echo Geha, Sally and Jason Douglas, their 30 grandchildren; and his sister, Dee Paulich.

Visitation will begin after 9 am, Monday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm Monday evening. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church on Tuesday at 9 am with a funeral procession following to Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Sifers, Billy

Billy Sifers, 76, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, November 22, 2010 at a local health care center.

Billy was born July 31, 1934 in Maysville, Missouri, where he was raised by Clyde and Eva Long. He graduated from Maysville High School in 1952.

Billy married Waneta Lou Morgan on November 2, 1956 in Maysville, she survives of the home. He was a meat cutter at Warner’s Locker Plant in Maysville and Howard’s Market in Plattsburg, Missouri, working at each place for 20 years. He moved to the St. Joseph area in 1990.

Billy was a member of United Methodist Church in Maysville. He enjoyed his family and will be sadly missed by all.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Mike Grable; granddaughter, Jessica Grable; grandson, Garret Grable; brothers, Robert Long, Lawrence, James and Jack Sifers; sisters, Alta Hawk, Joyce Lingo, Ruth, Mary, and Katherine.

Additional survivors include daughter, Carolyn Grable, St. Joseph; sons, Darrel (Sylvia) Sifers, Folsom, California, Carl (Paula) Sifers, Kansas, City, Missouri; five grandchildren, Jason, David , Sarah, Molly and Nicole Sifers; six step-grandchildren; brothers, Donald, Curtis, John and Samuel Sifers; numerous nieces and nephews.

Services 11 am, Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Visitation will begin after 1 pm Tuesday at our Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday evening. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Hands of Hope Hospice or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Boyer, Nellie

Nellie May Boyer, 83, Easton, Missouri, passed away Saturday, November 20, 2010 at a local hospital.

Nellie was born February 1, 1927 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Thurman L. and Nellie M. (Modie) Childs. She moved to the Savannah, Missouri area, where she attended and graduated from school. As a child she overcame polio, a testament to her strong will and determination.

Nellie married Lloyd Boyer March 15, 1947 in St. Joseph, became a homemaker and raised her children. She was a member of East Side Baptist Church.

Lloyd preceded her in death May 19, 2008. She was also preceded by her parents; brother, Thurman “Bill” L. Childs; sisters, Harriet Boyer, Nancy Jacobs; and grandson, Aron Boyer.

Survivors include son, Phillip E. (Sue) Boyer, St. Joseph; daughter, Susan (Richard) Odiam, Kansas City, Missouri; grandsons, Phil and Christopher Boyer; one great-grandson; sister, Geraldine Tillison, Albany, Missouri; numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services 2 pm, Tuesday at Freeman Chapel Cemetery in Easton. Visitation will begin after 1 pm, Monday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm Monday evening.
