Carla Ann Klein
1978 – 2011

Carla Ann Klein, 32, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2011, at her residence.

Carla was born on October 12, 1978, in St. Joseph, MO. She was raised in St. Joseph and graduated from St. Francis Xavier Elementary School and Bishop LeBlond High School. She was of the Catholic faith. She loved flowers, gardening and scrapbooking. She enjoyed attending NASCAR and sprint car racing and participating in all kinds of water sports.

She worked at Klein Motors in St. Joseph and also worked in the transportation department of the motion picture industry with her mother. She was a member of Teamsters Union Local #41. Carla was a caring, loving, kind-hearted and generous person.

She was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Neil and Doris Klein; maternal grandfather, Bernard K. Huffman; uncle Ronald Klein and aunt, Addie Ann Huffman.

Carla is survived by her loving parents, Paul and Gracie (Huffman) Klein of St. Joseph, MO; maternal grandmother, Faye L. Huffman; uncles, Kevin and Greg Klein; aunts, Donna Palmer and Jeanine Klein; numerous cousins and a multitude of close friends.

Services: 1:00 p.m. Friday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel.
Interment Mt. Auburn Cemetery, St. Joseph, MO.

Visitation will begin after 12:00 noon Thursday at the Chapel, where the family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to American Cancer Society or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Cornelius, Janice Kay (Wilson)

Janice Kay (Wilson) Cornelius, 71, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday, June 18, 2011, at Heartland Regional Medical Center.

Janice was born in Holt County, MO on March 25, 1940, to Joseph W. and Wilma M. (Keever) Wilson. She attended school in Mound City, Mo. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers and one grandchild.

Janice enjoyed Bingo, arts and crafts, and spending time with her family and friends.

She married Billy Wayne Cornelius on May 15, 1970. He survives of the home.
Other survivors include six children, Robert Herring and his partner Vickie, Janetta Boynton and husband Victor, Billie Jean and husband Christian Hurt, Janice and partner Daniel Nolan, all of St. Joseph, MO, Deanna Symmonds and partner, Omar Morales of Milan, MO and Tammy Yerington of Davenport, IA; twenty-two grandkids and twenty- eight great-grandkids.

Mrs. Cornelius has been cremated under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. There will be no visitation. Services will be held at a later date.

Bailey, Gladys L.

Gladys L. Bailey, 68, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, June 16, 2011, at her home.

Gladys was born in Dexter, Arkansas, and raised in Mt. Home, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Delbert and Laura (Null) Harris; infant daughter, Vickie; four brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Edward Dennis Bailey; sons Rickie (Tina) Bailey, Bear, Delaware and Michael Bailey, Tampa, FL; three grandsons and one sister, Maxine.

Services 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Mrs. Bailey will be cremated following the service.

The family suggests memorial contributions to American Cancer Society or NW MO Regional Arthritis Association.

Nold, Pauline Frances (Palmer)

Pauline Frances (Palmer) Nold, 86, St. Joseph, MO, went to meet her Lord and Savior peacefully, on Sunday, June 19, 2011, at a St. Joseph residential care facility, surrounded by her loving family.

Pauline was born on April 1, 1925, in St. Joseph, to William G. and Katie M. (Gibson) Palmer. She attended school at St. Patrick’s School, and was a graduate of Convent of the Sacred Heart in St. Joseph. She was a former member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and a present member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and the Altar Society. During World War II, she worked at Quaker Oats. She married Alfred John Nold on February 1, 1947, in St. Joseph and became a homemaker. He passed away on January 18, 2004.

Pauline was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, William, Clint, Arthur and Michael and sisters, Edith and Mary.

Pauline was a very loving, caring and giving mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed.

Survivors include two sons, Michael A. (Pamela) Nold, Easton, MO and Gregory F. (Jane) Nold, St. Joseph, MO; grandchildren, Amber, Eric, Mark, Andy and Nate; great-grandchildren, Paige, Madalyn and Echo; and sister, Margaret Benjamin, Boulder, CO.

Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Horigan Chapel. Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery, St. Joseph, MO.

Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon Tuesday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, where the family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening.

Russell E. Smith, Sr. 71, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday,
June 11, 2011 at his home.

Russell was born March 18, 1940 in Trenton, Missouri to Russell L.
and Alberta E. (Bush) Smith. He was the owner and operator of
Smith’s Gutter & Siding Company. He was a member of the
Eureka Valley Baptist Church and the Glass Corvette Club.

Russell was preceded in death by his parents.

He married Karen S. Ellis on May 8, 1958 in St. Joseph, she survives
of the home.

Additional survivors include sons, Russell E. Smith, Jr. and his wife,
Carol, Charles R. Smith and his wife, Hollie, all of St. Joseph, Jack
Smith and his wife, Lisa, Ronald A. Smith and Lisa, all of Savannah,
Missouri; daughter, Carolyn Marschel and her husband, Jeffrey,
St. Joseph; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; sister,
Janet L. Cooperider, St. Joseph; numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Smith has been cremated under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-
Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. There will be no visitation or services
at our Chapel, however a register book will be available to sign.

Schank, Loren Cordell “Yo-Yo”

Loren Cordell Schank “YoYo”, 71, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, June 12, 2011 at a local hospital.

Cordell was born May 19, 1940 to Adlia and Thelma (Taylor) Schank in rural Oregon, Missouri,
where he was raised. He graduated from Fillmore High School and
then started his 30 year career at Wire Rope Corporation.

Cordell was a college football and basketball fan. He loved to travel, fish and
had an extensive collection of cologne. He loved his cat, “Bluebell”.

Cordell was married to Patricia Bush, she survives of the home. He belonged to
United Steel Workers #5783, United Way of St. Joseph and was a member of
St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.

Cordell was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Zackery Pfleiderer;
brothers, Dwight Schank and Orland Schank.

Additional survivors include sons, Russell Schank, Overland Park, Kansas,
Roger Schank, Randy Schank, David Schank, all of St. Joseph, Steven Jones,
Savannah, Missouri, Kenneth Jones, Oregon; daughter, Theresa
Pfleiderer, Savannah; thirteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers,
Roderick “Dick” Schank, Amazonia, Missouri, Gilbert Schank, St. Joseph;
three sisters, Linda Patterson, Fillmore, Missouri, Martha Gaukel, Barnard,
Missouri and Carrie Schank, St. Joseph.

1931 – 2011

Wendell A. Motsinger, 79, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Saturday,
June 11, 2011 at his home.

Wendell was born October 22, 1931 in Grant City, Missouri to Almon and
Margart (Scadden) Motsinger. He served his country in the Air Force
during the Korean Conflict.

Wendell was a self-employed lumberman. He married Jeanette Helen
Miliszewski on February 12, 1955 in Adams, Massachusetts, she preceded
him in death on July 18, 2009.

Wendell was mason and a member of the Shriners, Elks and Kiwanis.

Wendell was also preceded in death by his parents; and daughter, Marion
“Kay” Motsinger.

Survivors include son, Mike Motsinger, Stewartsville, Missouri;
daughter, Lisa Salmons and her fiancee, Les Stickley, St. Joseph; four
grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and two more on the way; brother,
Larry Motsinger and his wife, Shirley.

Mr. Motsinger has been cremated under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-
Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Private family services will be held at a
later date.

Norman F. Clark, Sr.
1924 – 2011

Norman F. Clark Sr., 87, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, June 10, 2011, at the MO Veterans Home in Cameron, MO.

Norman was born in Easton, MO, on May 28, 1924, to Bertha (Gerding) Clark and William Jackson Clark, Sr. He was a member of Harmony Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Norman was also a 32 degree mason and fifty year member of Saxton Lodge No. 508. He worked as an Engineer for Burlington Northern Railroad, retiring after 27 years service.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jack Clark and sister, Venice Kabel.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-four years, Mary (Huber) Clark, of the home; daughter, Rita Hanks and her husband Don, Smithville, MO; son, Norman Clark and his wife Judy, Huntersville, NC; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Bill Clark, Easton, MO; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services: 12:00 Noon Monday, at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Interment Blakely Cemetery.

The room will be open to the public at 8:00 a.m. Monday. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the Service.

Brother and sister Christopher Michael Kelley, 33, and Melissa Marie Tompkins, 24, both of St. Joseph, left this world together to be with their Lord and Savior as the result of a car accident on June 5, 2011.

Chris was born August 7, 1977 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Left to cherish his memory is soul mate and life-long companion, Amber Azzopardi and children, Callista, Cassandra, Chance, and Celeste Kelley.

Melissa was born February 7, 1987 in St. Joseph. She leaves behind her loving husband, Shaun Tompkins and daughters, Chasity, Abygail, and Melany.

Additional survivors include their mother, Patricia Krimmel; father and step mother, Jack and Mary Krimmel; brother, Jack Kelley (Jessica); step brother, Jerry Pitthan; step sisters, Rachel Masterson, Megan Schneeflock, and Rebecca Amayo; cousin, Nicholas Kleckner; nephew, Dylan Kelley; uncles, Ron Trader, David Pierson, and Frank, Vern, Larry, Joseph, Tyrone, and Victor Krimmel; aunts, Wanita Mcnabb, Jo Hurt, Juanita Kopp-Noble, Viola Danner, and Terry Pausley; as well as many other cousins, family, and friends.

David Stout, Sr., 70, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, June 6, 2011 at
Saxton Woods Chateau.

David was born December 11, 1940 in Maitland, Missouri to Otis and Mary
(Hinton) Stout. He worked in oil fields as a welder.

Survivors include sons, David Stout, Jr., Robbie Stout; daughters, Beverly Lukehart,
Judy Fletcher; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Stout has been cremated under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. There will not be any services at our chapel, but a register book will be available to sign.

Harold V. Clark, 92, Country Club, MO, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2011, at his home.

Harold was born in St. Joseph, MO on February 1, 1919, to William Arthur and Lillie Pearl (Nold) Clark. He was a farmer and also worked in maintenance for the Savannah R-III School District.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dale Clark; sister, Elsie Goff; and grandson, Kellen Clark.

Harold married Darlyne Stufflebean on August 23, 1941, in Oregon, MO. She survives of the home. He is also survived by his children, Larry (Margie) Clark, Nancy (Bill) Sauter and Bill Clark; five grandchildren, Brady Sauter, Colby Clark, Jentry Prine, Shauna Clark and Erin Clark; and four great-grandchildren.

Services 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Private inurnment at a later date.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Mavis Rose Jones, Kansas City, died Wednesday, June 1, 2011.

Mavis Rose Jones was born November, 27, 1922 in St. Joseph, the daughter of Gertrude Rose Huffman and Charley Clarence Clampitt. She grew up in St. Joseph, graduating from Benton High School in 1940 and from Platt-Gard Secretarial School in 1941.

She was married to James Richard “Dick” Jones, also of St. Joseph, on December 18, 1941 and they celebrated 64 years of marriage before his passing in 2005.

Mrs. Jones worked in the office of Standard Brands, Kansas City, Mo., moving there in 1945, then moving to Topeka, Kan., in 1949, where Mr. Jones was transferred. They moved to Colorado Springs, Colo., in 2000, returning to Kansas City in 2002. Mrs. Jones was a member of First Christian Church and Good Fellowship Class and The Research Club of Topeka.

Her husband precededed her in death in January, 2005. A brother, Edward C. Clampitt of St. Joseph also preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Randall S. Jones of Monument, Colo.; a daughter, Marla S. Jones, Los Angeles, Calif.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith and Sidenfaden Chapel. Visitation will be held one hour before services. Interment: Memorial Park Cemetery.

1933 – 2011

Helen Dorothea Tanner, 78, St. Joseph, MO, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2011, at a St. Joseph health care facility.

Helen was born on January 7, 1933, in Washington, D.C. She was a longtime resident of St. Joseph, a graduate of Central High School and a member of Cathedral of St. Joseph.

She married Loren W. Tanner on June 30, 1951. He preceded her in death on July 9, 2007. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Lauine and Helen (Nix) Moyer, and two brothers, David and Phillip Moyer.

Helen loved to work in her flower garden and to go camping with her family in their travel trailer. She owned Helen’s Antiques for many years.

Survivors include her brother, James (Norma) Moyer; two sisters, Christine (Bob) Willoughby and Debbie (Keith) Duncan; children, Stephen (Kathy) Tanner, Apple Valley, MN, David Tanner, Buffalo Grove, IL, Joyce (Jess) LaFollette, St. Joseph, MO; seven grandchildren, Julie Finley, Michael Tanner, Kristin Turner, Amy Tanner, Ashley Tanner, Janessa and Jillian LaFollette; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family would like to give special thanks to Vintage Gardens and her sister, Debbie Duncan, who took special care of Helen over the last few months and Emeli Price of Vintage Home Health Care for taking her out on weekly ventures over the past year.

Mass of Christian Burial 9:00 a.m. Thursday at Cathedral of St. Joseph. Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

1918 – 2011

Leona (Collinsworth) Lilly, 92, St. Joseph, Missouri, died Sunday, June 5, 2011, at Carriage Square Health Care Center.

Leona was born on June 15, 1918, in Ravenwood, Missouri, to LaVelle MaDonna and Ella Marie (Rogers) Collinsworth. She was a graduate of Central High School, in St. Joseph and a member of Long Branch Christian Church, where she was active as the organist and pianist. Seward and Leona owned and operated Driftwood Restaurant in St. Joseph and she volunteered at Patee House Museum.

Leona married Seward William Lilly on October 24, 1936, in Troy Kansas. He passed away on May 10, 1998. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and daughter, Joyce Marie Cox.

Survivors include her son, Seward William (Sandra) Lilly, Jr.,Bullhead City, AZ; two daughters, Carol (Jack) Sealey, Weatherby, MO and Debbie (Mike) Shores, St. Joseph, MO; grandchildren, Laura (Andy) Smith, David (Angela) Sealey, Cindy (Brian) Holmes, Rick (Sandra) Cox, Bill Cox, Stephen Lilly and Shaun Lilly; great-grandchildren: Zackary Sealey, Avree Sealey, Rylie Sealey, Kristi Holmes, Dustin Holmes, Aaron Bartram, Eric Cox, Kenneth Cox, Khristopher Cox, Joshua Cox and seven great-great-grandchildren.

TYLER, Texas — Russell T. “Scotty” Scott, 70, of Tyler, Texas, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2011, in Little Rock, Ark.

Services for Mr. Scott will be held on Saturday, June 4, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Pastor David Moore officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in St. Joseph under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith Funeral Home. Visitation is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 3, at Heaton-Bowman-Smith Funeral Home in St. Joseph.

Tyler arrangements are under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home in Tyler, Texas. He was born September 11, 1940 in St. Joseph to Russell Louis and Lola Marie Resler Scott Abbott. He graduated from St. Joseph Junior College and attended Kansas University in Lawrence, Kan.

Mr. Scott worked at Swift & Company until 1970 when he moved to Dallas, Texas. There he formed several companies with business partner Mike Loehr in the food, software and transportation industry with offices in several locations. He maintained residences in Dallas, Texas, Vail, Colo., and Tyler, Texas, where he resided at the time of his passing and near his beloved ranch in Overton, Texas.

Mr. Scott was a committed Christian and watch care member of the First Baptist Church of Tyler and a long time member of St. Paul Lutheran church in St. Joseph. He was a passionate supporter of St. Paul Lutheran School.

Mr. Scott was preceded in death by his father, Russell Louis Scott; mother, Lola Marie Resler Scott Abbott; step father, John Robert Abbott; and half brother, Robert Lawrence Abbott.

He is survived by his longtime friend and caregiver, James D. Bozman; a number of cousins; and a host of friends too numerous to mention. Pallbearers will be Rod Stevenson, Mickey Roberts, Ron Pister, Larry Pilgram, Jack Haynes, Ben Haynes, and Andy Pierce. Honorary pallbearer will be Dick DeShon.

1950 – 2011

Lloyd A. “Sonny Boy” De Spain, Jr., 60, lifelong resident of St. Joseph, Missouri, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at a St. Joseph health care center.

Lloyd was born on October 12, 1950, in St. Joseph, to Virginia Darlyne (Ingram) and Lloyd A. De Spain, Sr. Lloyd was preceded in death by his father and three grandchildren. He worked as an investigator in law enforcement.

Survivors include his children, Lloyd (Teresa) De Spain, III, Savannah, MO, Lisa (Jason) Crockett, St. Joseph, MO, Roy (Erin Gibbons) De Spain, St. Joseph, MO, Jessica De Spain, St. Joseph, MO; grandson who was raised in the home, Joshua Thomas; thirteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; mother, Virginia De Spain, St. Joseph, MO; three sisters, Alyce King, Jerre Moore and Janet De Spain, all of St. Joseph, MO and numerous nieces and nephews.
