Betty Lee Abernathy, 81, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, July 4, 2010, at Heartland Regional Medical Center.
Betty was born in St. Joseph, Missouri, on July 1, 1929, to Otto J. and Lena E. (James) Roesing. She had lived in Andrew County most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of Faith United Church.
She married George Ray Abernathy on March 1, 1947, in Troy, Kansas. He passed away on March 19, 2005. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one son, Dennis Lee Abernathy.
Survivors include her daughter, Rayetta Schweder and husband Timothy, Monett, MO; daughter-in-law, Susan Abernathy, Savannah, MO; grandchildren, Amy Weiser and husband Richard, Heather Emmendorfer and husband Brian, Raychel Phillippe and husband Ryan, Timothy Andrew Schweder and wife Tessa and Roger Abernathy and wife Rita; great-grandchildren, Erica, Kyle, Kendall, Gage, Addison, Reed, Ryder, Kaden and Blake and one brother, L.T. Roesing, Cosby, MO.
Services 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Pastor Earnestine Blakely officiating. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph, MO.
Visitation will begin after 1:00 p.m. Tuesday where the family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening.
Pallbearers were Rick Weiser, Brian Emmendorfer, Ryan Phillippe, Timothy Andrew Schweder, Roger Abernathy and Kyle Weiser.
