James (Jim) R. Cox, 96, St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at a local health care facility.
Jim was born April 10, 1914 to David L. and Hazel (Simpson) Cox, Sr. in Troy, Kansas. He married June Iverson on August 8, 1958; she preceded him in death on January 5, 2002.
He worked for Land Construction Company for over 25 years, retiring May 1, 1976. He also farmed, but his passion was working out in the timber cutting firewood. Jim joined Laborer’s International Union of America Union 579 on June 25, 1953. He joined the Eagles Lodge local Aerie #49 in July of 1972 and served as President during 1980-1981. He also was a member of the Gower Goodtimers and enjoyed the Senior Citizens Dances and going to auctions.
Jim was also preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Sarah (Reiserer) Cox; one brother and two sisters.
Survivors include daughters, Diane L. Carpenter, Tampa, Florida, Lois K. Whelchel, Indiana; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, including James R. Cox, Savannah, Missouri and Patty Frazier, St. Joseph, who cared
for him in his later years; one brother; and two sisters.
Services 10 am, Saturday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Visitation will begin after 9 am, Friday at our Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm, Friday evening. Interment Fillmore Cemetery, Fillmore, Missouri.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Heart Association.
