Vera A. Curtin

Vera A. Curtin, 82, St. Joseph, MO, passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2012, at her home.

Vera was born in Holt County, MO, on November 11, 1929, to Daniel “Boone” and Nellie Marie (Bradley) Fansher. She was a graduate of Oak Grove School, Oregon High School in 1948, and received her Registered Nursing degree from MO Methodist Medical Center. She worked as a nurse at the State Hospital and then at Methodist Hospital for thirty years, retiring in 1985. She loved gardening, canning and being a homemaker. She also enjoyed hunting mushrooms and square dancing. She always loved and cared for her family. Vera was a member of Maxwell Heights Presbyterian Church and MO State Nurses Association.

Vera married Norris Johnson, Jr. in 1951. To this marriage, a son, Daniel “Danny” Johnson was born. She married Thomas F. Curtin on February 24, 1961. To this union, was born a son, Thomas Michael Curtin. Thomas F. Curtin passed away on April 19, 1999. She was also preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Pauline Steeby, Gladys Scheib, and Mildred Pittsenbarger.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas (Tammy) Curtin and Daniel “Danny” (Connie) Johnson, both of St. Joseph; sister, Mary (Jake) Steeby, Amazonia, MO; brother Ivan (Anna) Fansher, Savannah, MO; three grandchildren, Jeremy (April) Johnson, Tanner Curtin and Madisen Curtin; one great-granddaughter, Zoey Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services 1:00 P.M. Friday at Heaton-Bowman Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will begin after 12:00 noon Thursday at the Chapel, where the family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening.

The family suggests memorials to Hands of Hope Hospice.
