Gladys B. Carothers, 97, St. Joseph, MO, passed away Monday, January 18, 2010, at a St. Joseph health care center.
Gladys was born on June 8, 1912, in Chillicothe, MO to Joseph Van Kirk and Rosie M. (Collins) Beazell. She was a member of Huffman Memorial United Methodist Church, 102 River Extension Club and Needles Club at Moila.
She married Victor L. Carothers on December 26, 1949, in Chillicothe. He passed away on July 22, 1976. She was also preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.
Gladys is survived by step-daughter, Vicki Barton & husband Fred, Gladstone, MO; step-son, Craig Carothers & wife Karen, O’Fallon, IL; grandchildren, Dr. Thomas Barton & wife Cindy, Kansas City, MO, Karen Gloer & husband Josh, Sherman Oaks, CA, Brian Carothers, Chicago, IL, Kevin Carothers & wife Jeny, Chicago, IL; step-granddaughter, Kelly Underwood, O’Fallon, IL; and great-grandchildren, Abigail Barton and Daniel Barton.
It was Mrs. Carothers wish that her body be bequeathed to University of Missouri Medical School. Services will be held at a later date. Her family expresses a special thank you to Vintage Gardens staff and residents for the care, friendships and love they gave to Gladys.
