Gladys Fern (Hessemyer) Slaybaugh, 94, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, January 22, 2010 at a Platte City health care center.
Gladys was born in Easton, Missouri July 12, 1915 and moved to St. Joseph in 1943.
She worked several years at Wades Indian Grill and did volunteer work for RSVP wherever needed and also at Joyce Raye Patterson Senior Center. She was a member of Wyatt Park Baptist Church and New Horizon Club.
She married Raymond A. Slaybaugh in 1934, having 63 years of married life before he passed away February 11, 1998. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Jessie and Clarence Hessemyer; one son, Raymond Eugene Slaybaugh; one sister, Lavada Bigham; and one brother, Eugene Hessemyer.
Survivors include sister, Velma McDaniel; one grandson, Scott (Ann) Slaybaugh, three granddaughters, Cathy (Jeff) Halterman, Lisa Slaybaugh, Tammie (Bob) Dunlap; four great-grandsons, Seth, Cyrus, Cody and Daniel; and one great-granddaughter, Jaelyn.
Services 11:00 am, Tuesday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Visitation will begin after 12:00 noon Monday at our chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Monday evening. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery.
