William(Bill) Morris Hawkins and Marylee Holmes Hawkins who shared 66 years of marriage together will share their memorial together. Bill was born in 1914 and raised on a farm in Ash Grove, Missouri. After graduating from Missouri University, he was employed by the Farm Security Administration until going into the army in 1942. He married Marylee Holmes in 1944. Marylee was born in 1914 and raised on a farm in Easton Missouri. She was active in 4-H and won several trips and awards. She was also one of Buchanan County’s top debators. After graduating from the University of Missouri, where she was president of Phi Upsilon Omicron, she became the county home demonstration agent until she was named state 4-H club director.
Bill and Marylee both lived a full and happy life. They both possessed many talents and had many accomplishments. Bill was exceptional for his love of all people, curiosity of life, sense of humor, strong values, work ethic and joy of storytelling. We shall remember you daily Dad and always wake up to one of your favorite sayings, “Isn’t it a great day to be alive” Your vibrant spirit and our wonderful memories of you shall be with us forever.
Bill and Marylee both shared a passion for travel and spent many decades on the road discovering new places, continents and people.
Marylee was a very devoted mother and grandmother. She had a quick sense of wit and was always gracious. Marylee had an abundance of energy and loved making everything around her beautiful.
Bill and Marylee have a son, Brent Hawkins, a daughter, Denise Hamilton, and their pride and joy Tasha, their granddaughter.
Bill and Marylee touched many lives in positive ways. They will be remembered for their optimistic nature, sense of adventure and love of life. We love you both and thank you for being such fabulous parents and role models.
A casual celebration and memorial will honor Marylee and Bill, Monday June 14 at 10:00 AM at St Joseph Memorial Cementery, St Joseph , Missouri.
