Ethel Helm passed away February 15, 2012 at a local care center. Ethel was born November 21, 1925 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to John Orville Heber Nelson and May Ethel (Martin) Nelson, the second of three children. She grew up in Salt Lake City, attending East High School and graduating from the University of Utah in 1947 with a degree in Dietetic Arts.
She married Marshall P. Helm in the Salt Lake LDS Temple August 27, 1948, and they made their residence in Pocatello, Idaho. She worked as a dietitian in hospitals and nursing homes in the southeast Idaho area.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served the Lord in many callings through the years. Her hobbies included singing in the church choir and quilting. She was a member of the Piece Corps Quilt Guild in St. Joseph and founder of a quilting group in Pocatello, Idaho.
She is survived by her sons, John of Portland, Oregon, and William (Cheryl) of St. Joseph, and six grandchildren, Rachel (Marcus) Lee, Amanda, Matthew, Jessica, Joshua, and Daniel Helm, also of St. Joseph. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers and her husband.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 17, 2012, at 4 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints St. Joseph Second Ward, 7 N. Carriage Drive, St. Joseph. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, and requests no flowers please. Interment will be at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Pocatello, Idaho.
