Nothing was more important to Wanda than her family. From helping to raise her younger brothers and sisters and later her own six children, Wanda ensured a strong sense of personal responsibility, ethics and a commitment to family.

Wanda was a member of the 1941 graduating class from Sacred Heart Convent. Wanda married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Bill, her husband of sixty-six years, at the St. Mary’s Orphanage in 1942. A trailblazer for her generation, Wanda was a well-respected long time St. Joe business owner. Wanda and her late husband Bill, owned and operated Bill’s Coast-to-Coast hardware store in South End and later owned Heitman Mattress Company for over two decades and were equal partners in business, raising the family and life.

Wanda will be cremated under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, St. Joseph. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Horigan Chapel at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. James Catholic Church or the Cathedral of St. Joseph.

A small memorial gathering will be held this week at the Corby Place Senior Living (233-4000).
