Mary Madeleine Horning, passed away Thursday, September 2, 2010, at Saxton Riverside Care Center. Madeleine was born to Vincent and Margaret (Beauford) Hansen in St. Joseph on March 4, 1919. Preceding her in death are her parents, husband James Horning, Sr. and two brothers, Vincent and Francis Hansen.
Madeleine lived most of her life as a wife and homemaker in the St. Joseph area and was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. After retiring, she and her husband enjoyed many years of traveling throughout the country in their motor home, as well as wintering in Florida with her sister and brothers.
In her late years, Madeleine lived in northern Arkansas and southwest Missouri until, due to failing health, she moved back to St. Joseph to Saxton Riverside Care Center in February, 2008.
Survivors include one sister, Margaret Brzycki, Estero, Florida; daughter Sharon Lory (Cecil), Faucett, MO; son, James Horning, Jr. (Doris), Strafford, MO; two grandsons; one granddaughter; one step-granddaughter; four great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors at Horigan Chapel at Mt. Olivet Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, followed by a Funeral Mass under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to a charity of the donor’s choice or an offering for Mass in her honor.
