Darlene J. Magness, 80, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, June 9, 2010 surrounded by her family.
Darlene was born December 28, 1929 to Henry and Elsie (Wood) Cobb in St. Joseph. She was a lifetime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where she belonged to St. Anne’s Altar Society, St. Mary’s Quilters and helped with the Food Pantry. She especially enjoyed sewing quilts for all the special people in her life.
Darlene was married to Albert Magness on September 8, 1951 and he preceded her in death. She was also preceded by her parents; infant son, Allen; brothers, T.W., Patrick and Gene Cobb; and sister, Kathleen Rush.
Survivors include sons; David Magness, Osborn, Missouri, Donald Magness, Savannah, Missouri; daughters, Susan Underwood, Terri Magness, Sharon Magness, all of St. Joseph; brothers, Henry Cobb, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Francis Cobb, Agency, Missouri; 9 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren
Mass of Christian Burial 10 am, Saturday St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Visitation will begin after 10 am, Friday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, where the
family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Friday evening. Rosary 5:30 pm. Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial contributions to St. Mary’s Food Pantry, Hands of Hope Hospice or a charity of the donor’s choice.
