I knew Jimmie and his sisters since they were in grade school and have never known a more close knit family. His father was a wonderful man and Jimmie got all of his work ethics and his mothers and dads compassion.I also had the pleasure of knowing his son Chris who passed away at age 46 in 2005 . Jimmie was a wonderful father in law to my sister Debbie and provided much comfort to her when Chris passed.Jimmies sister Nancy was also there for Debbie in her time of need as her and Jimmie were very close and spent a lot of time with Chris before he passed What a fine fair, sensitive, loving and compassionate person he was and a great friend to me.

Jimmie was the best big brother a girl could have. Always supportive and caring. I have such good memories of him and I helping his son Chris (who passed away 11-14-05) at Phil Welch stadium in 2005. I am so sorry I was unable to spend time with him his last year but treasure the daily visits from him to my house for coffee in 2009. No one can take our lifelong memories away. You will be missed but not forgotten. Your sisters Lois Robbins, Nancy Nix, Patsy Manley, 1/2 sister Helen Bruner and 1/2 brother Bill Nix.

I was a lifelong friend of Jim and a fellow officer on the St. Joseph PD. He was kind and fair judge and treated everyone fairly. My sympathy to the family.

Jim was my criminal evidence instructor in college, mentor, friend, and inspiration over the years. He taught me to accomplish as much in this life as possible and to always believe that I was capable of anything I set my mind to and nothing was beyond my reach. He taught me that, "no.." was not an option when I was given it as a response and that there are ways around every obstacle positioned in my way. Both he and his wife, Freddie, are permanently placed in my heart forever and they remain a constant driving force behind every accomplishment I have and will continue to make. He will be missed.

What a wonderful guy! I'm a retired police officer from NKC, MOPD. 20 years ago my two friends and I were feeling insecure in protecting ourselves on the street, much less protecting anyone else. We found out Jim was giving "judo" lessons and we could get college credit at the same time. Jim doesn't know it, but we went from being insecure to most confident as police officers. His teachings were used extensively on the street and led to apprehensions and many arrest. I will miss Jim and hope to see him later in heaven. Thanks Jim.

Growing up in St. Joe, I spent a lot of time with the Nix family. As a child, I thought he was kind and funny and a good father to Jamie and Sonya. Later, Jim and Frederica taught me Judo and Karate, and they quickly became my mentors. He had faith in the girls' ability and wasn't afraid to challenge us, and I learned that I was a strong and capable from him. He was so good-natured, and learning from him was always fun. I came home from college once and went to visit Jim and Freddie. He found out that I had taken dance lessons and we danced together in their living room. I loved his zest for life, his drive and ambition, and his ability to find humor in everything. Most of all, I remember his smile.

This world is a much better place for having Jim Nix. Jim had a positive influence on many lives and taught people how they could be better and to have fun at the same time. He was colorful and could stimulate interest where interest might be lacking ( Yet interest was needed ). It is people like Jim Nix that are true treasures to everyone.
Good-by, my friend, my mentor, my teacher and Sensei.

                With deepest condolences,
                    Frederick J. Steffen
