Glen D. “Woody” Woodcock, 78, of St. Joseph, MO, passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at Heartland Regional Medical Center.
Glen was born August 5, 1931, in Salcedo, MO, the son of Thomas and Julia (White) Woodcock.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Bernice Conard, two daughters, Ellen Woodcock and Sue Woodcock and grandson Rob Hicks.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen, daughter Glenda Fulk and husband Orville, son Dennis Woodcock and wife Debbie, son Steven Woodcock, step-daughter, Diane Gibson, sisters, Thelma Killian and Shirley Hicks, seven grandchildren, Megan and Jacob Woodcock, Kris and Stacy Fulk, David Merriott, Shauna Woodcock and Kayla Kuschell, five great grandchildren, as well as several nephews and nieces to whom he was very close.
He loved his family dearly and was a wonderful husband, father, brother, grandpa and uncle.
He served four years in the Army and was a Korean War Veteran, wounded in action, received numerous medals, including the Purple Heart. He was a member of the American Legion Post 359, former Governor of the Moose Lodge and a member of the Lake Contrary Association.
He retired from Johnson Controls, owned and operated Woody’s Lakeshore Grocery in Agency, MO and drove for Miller Funeral Escort Service
He fought a courageous battle against cancer and did it, as he did everything in his life, with a sense of humor.
Services 3:00 PM Saturday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith Chapel with the family to receive friends at 1:00 PM Saturday. Following the service Mr. Woodcock will be cremated under the direction of Heaton-Bowman-Smith Chapel.
The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.
